I've never seen that page, must be a new.fm thing. I guess I assumed that it was the same as clicking through to "more tracks" or "more artists". I guess that is what "Library" does though. Anyway, that's a bit of a pointless stat. I got a new phone and got finally sick of loading all my music to it manually (used to just pop in the same SD card from the old phone, but that's a whole different rant). So i ended up with Soundcloud which lets you stream from your phone for free (ad-supported) with the screen off, which basically nothing else does. I have rarely if ever used Soundcloud to scrobble from, and it primarily contains music that is only on Soundcloud... so there's where my nearly 100% new artists came from. But on that note I heard some really good stuff that I need to do a deeper dive on, so I honestly recommend it.

honestly, kinda relate on the pointless stat thing as my girlfriend got onto last.fm recently and she has new tracks for things she's listened to for years! i joined the site about a year ago, and was filling out my news with olds the whole time. the review's more for looking at the bells and whistles honestly, and i don't have much to do all day, so i like to click on it and watch the charts fill out. i'm glad you've found soundcloud helpful. i found a lot of good stuff there a while back, and one of my favorite artists (devi mccallion) used soundcloud for quite a few of her public uploads for years, mostly when i didn't use it, so now i have a treasure trove... if i can find what accounts she's uploaded them on.

It seems like lots of people abandoned ship when the new design rolled out. I got used to it but I prefer to have more functionality on the screen, not less. I also do remember listening to music on the site directly. When they forced Spotify it actually allowed me to find a lot more new things... however so much was lost since they just deleted the uploads from the last.fm site entirely, some of which were never uploaded anywhere else.

Exactly, well I dislike Spotify, it made music into a vibe and playlist thing and that has crushing results on artists and listeners alike. Also its just like with okcupid, once the best dating site that even Julian Assange used, that also was bought by the match/tinder group and destroyed, just like last.fm. Ok, lastfm was bought by cbs or something, but same sh essentially. But yeah, I can understand anyone that abondened this site, like I did back then. I hope for a strong comeback of the importance of especially independend music and musicians, that was much stronger in the old lastfm times with stuff available here. Tbh I discovered more on last.fm not Spotify too, because its easier to find good stuff very fast with way better recommendations based on fans - and the fans on lastfm usually are more into it. Which results in more accuracy.

I see our compatibility lists Alcest, Keldian and Mechina (after coming here from Outloud) Nice mix there, and I'm always glad to see Keldian get some listens.

I don't know either, but I would guess sometime between 25 Mar 2007 and 22 Nov 2024.

How obscure do you want, and how closely related should it be to what you have listened to? What came to mind first based on a quick glance of your profile is Amusement Parks on Fire, specifically the album Road Eyes. It's the first band I listened to that was considered actual Shoegaze/Post-Rock rather than Blackgaze/Post-Black Metal.

I'll answer back here, old skewl! Cool man! Yeah, the 2014 Avalon was god-awful, and it has since gotten much better I feel like. Haven't systematically listened to everything from it and paid much thought anyway, but the little I know about the newer stuff sounds some of the better Tolkki from the last 20 years. Meaning the material won't even touch his stuff prior to that, but is kinda good nonetheless. I'm horrified at the thought of how his revitalized (and according to him "a completely new idea" :D) Return to Dreamspace will be, it if ever will see the light of day... I don't see Avalon as your top artist nor any of their albums as a top album for you, though!

oh, I do see it a top artist in last 90 days view, but indeed not the album. Last FM - it just works!

I usually only listen to music in the car (and usually on shuffle so there's not many listens of any one artist) or on vinyl which doesn't scrobble at all (there are manual workarounds for that but that would interfere with the listening experience).

@UserNo84 what? I don't know who you are or what this means. I assume it was posted here by mistake. I would contact you directly but don't know how. You disabled your shout box.

Yeah, we have high compatibility, but we share good bands. Maybe if i didn't reset my profile 3 times over the past 11 years we would have more in common. My taste has changed quiet a bit, but there are still things i love from 2006-2008 that will never go out of style. I used to listen to a lot metal, and especially black metal (all waves) along with doom and crust punk. Now i only listen to some selected bands which are barely labeled as that.

Lol, its about to roll off my charts. I was addicted for like a month in the summer. So now I will always associate Summer 2019 with that album, and be taken back when I listen. The power of music...

Please remind me what band you came here from. I originally thought Helloween invented power metal with their song "Oernst of Life" in 1984. But they did not. Another strong candidate is Bodine's "Rock Machine" in 1982. I am seeking the first power metal song.

I'm from Riot's shoutbox. Thanks for reply. I'd also add Accept's Fast as a Shark, its chorus clearly inspired power metal formula. Check out Attack band, they had excellent early power metal albums in 1985 and 1989, and their 1984 debut probably counts too, at least partially (I'd say it was a mix of AOR and metal mainly).

I actually think based on the drums Fast as A Shark is easier to classify as power metal. Riot's warrior and narita are more of a fast hard rock. But clearly precursors to the genre.

SO NOW IT HAPPENED, I also got the ugly, confusing layout too. Last.FM already tried to install this style (song title on the left, artist on the right) years ago and failed (/ lost a huge bunch of users). Aren't they interested in the opinions of their users and subscribers? I can't believe that more than 10 % of "us" all appreciate the layout design. I, personally, am a member since 2002 (since 2007 with another name), we've walked through a lot of changes, lost a few very good features, but THIS is REALLY bugging me out to the max. Express your opinion: create a user account in their community support on www.getsatisfaction.com/lastfm . We can't let this happen! We love our customary Last.FM that we're used to for ages. Without us this page is nothing, and we have to tell the admins that we love the style that's been here for years. WE are Last.FM !!!

I don't get it. Looks the same to me. The major update was like 3 or 4 years ago and I'm used to it by now.
