So... Here's the scoop on new Modest Mouse setlists, based on the two shows I just saw. Festivals - all new songs from No One's First, We Were Dead, and Good News. 4/14 songs were older than 2004. Small venues - half post-2004, half pre-2004, mostly Lonesome Crowded West and Good News. If it were my way it would all be pre-2004, but I can't really complain. Really didn't like the atmosphere of the House of Blues. Someone was in front of me every ten seconds to get another beer, and there was this guy who was determined to let everyone know he thought he was a bigger fan than everyone else, lol. On the other hand, I'm 5'2", so I couldn't really see in the outside venue.

Haha, absolutely. I think you were right about the festival thing, although only five or six other bands will be playing on that day. Even if it was a full-blown show I would go twice. I really think concerts are an irreplaceable experience, something to live for for sure. You're going to see The Wall Live? Hey, me too :D I missed the first few days of sales, because I'd forgotten about it, but I still managed to get a decent seat for a hundred bucks... phew... and I'm going into college too so yeah this is basically my life, I've decided.

Hmm... Well, I hope you're wrong, 'cause they're the only band playing that day while every other day has 2-3 bands, and it starts at 4 PM. I would be really pissed off, haha.

They're going to play in Chicago at the Pitchfork Festival. They'll be there on July 16. I live in New Hampshire and I'll be driving eighteen hours to get there... it's worth it. I mean, who knows, I might never get another chance. I'm also going to stop in Centralia, PA along the way - it's this place that was a town until the late '80s because a coal mine fire started spread all under the town in the '60s. There's not much left, since the government wants it all demolished, and there's enough coal to fuel the fire for hundreds of years, but I couldn't possibly pass it up. Too surreal.

I know what you mean. It is totally '80s, even the lineup style is, while old MM is timeless... I think the riffs are some of the best Marr's written since Smiths, but I agree that MM had their own special thing he ruined. I think they do work well together, and that it's good in terms of music, but in terms of Modest Mouse, it's garbage. I have faith in them though - well, I mean, I have faith in the original lineup to come to their senses ;P

Hmm I'm not really sure either, but when I'm in an upbeat mood I can really get into it. Johnny Marr's addition is actually what got me into them - I never thought it could actually bring them down a notch :P I have no doubt they will find their balance, maybe with him... I think he's done some really interesting and mesmerizing things to old MM songs live.

Seriously, I <3 your top tracks. Mine are a bit off, I just started using my account two months ago after not using it for over a year. What is your opinion on the "new" Modest Mouse? ;)

okay now I can totally see them now. yeah, watching them is pretty tranquil. I don't know what kind of hustle I need, but hopefully I'll be posted up in La Jolla one day. If you like aquariums, I recommend the one in San Francisco, the Long Beach one is kind of small. Well I'll bug you in a while.
