I totally agree, love their minimalist style, because it really works. Every song on their is near perfect. I first heard VCR on an episode of Lie to Me, so that's how I heard of them... but I didn't give their music a chance. It was only after the hype on Last.fm, that I decided to listen to their album, and ended up loving it. As for EBTG, I love Tracy Thorn's voice, very mellow. Have you heard her on Massive Attack's Protection?
