Always glad to see another Boom Boom Satellites listener :) I pretty much listen to all albums through in their entirety, though sometimes with things like compilations I may put it on shuffle. Barking is their closest album to straight-up "dance and techno", so it's their easiest to listen to IMO, but Dubnobasswithmyheadman and Oblivion With Bells are my favourite albums of theirs I'd say.

I haven't come across a band that mixes rock and electronic elements and makes me feel the way that BBS does, they were a truly special group. I had a big psychedelic/progressive rock stage in my teens (Dream Theater was also my favourite band when I was 14 lol), which is when I began to listen through albums as they were sequenced, as the artist intended it to be listened to; a Kayo Dot album is just not the same in random order, for example. I actually think that the release of Barking is when I first started properly listening to Underworld, even though I had heard tracks beforehand, the light mood made it feel real optimistic to me at that time in my life, which is probably why it's my favourite. I'll have to look into High Contrast :)

Yeah BBS are for sure super unique in that regard, a lot of the bands that fill the electronic/rock niche tend to be in the synthwave world (like Magic Sword, Starcadian, Carpenter Brut etc.). Although interestingly, some indie/alt rock bands do dip their toes in semi-similar electronic rock stuff, so I'd highly recommend the album V by the Horrors if you like BBS's electronic rock. And songs like "treat" & "gelfling" from 48:13 by Kasabian, but not as consistently electronic rock for a BBS full album enjoyer like you as it tends more to alt rock on the rest of the album. Good album imo though! and I get it about artists' intentions on full albums, but how do you feel about singles and EP's? Especially single releases up to an album release, would that change how you listen? Barking's an interesting first Underworld album, kinda makes me think what my first impression would've been had that been my first album! I'd definitely have expected them to do more DnB if that was my first, lol

I used to listen to the horrors a lot, I played primary colours so much I practically still remember how each song goes off the top of my head, lmao. Alt-rock and stuff is cool to me, I use genre descriptors more to gauge what I'm getting myself into, but I don't go like, "oh this is described as metalcore, so I'll avoid it", if I vibe to the sound I'm hearing, I'll listen to it, which feels like a healthy way to approach music IMO. To be honest, I'm terrible at keeping up with lots of artists and their releases these days, I had no idea Underworld had a new album out until I looked at your profile and saw you'd listened to it haha, so unless a single or EP has exclusive tracks on it, I don't go out of my way to listen to it in that format, and instead just go for the album; if an EP only includes tracks later included on an album, I won't bother listening to it (unless it's unique/different versions).

I have super fond memories of A Link to the Past. It was the first video game I fully beat by myself—I remember I beat it on the same day I learned to push myself on the swings. Big day for me! I've replayed it a couple times, and realized it's a surprisingly dark little game. EarthBound and Mother 3 are amazing games, but I love them for very different reasons. EarthBound's one of those games that perfectly encapsulates that summery nostalgia feeling, while Mother 3 is one of the best written video games plots I've played, but also one of the most poignant—it's as much of a tearjerker as everyone says. Don't go giving up hope on the Boredoms! At least there's an infinite amount of Boredoms side-projects left to explore at any time. So…have you been working on any new music? I remember listening to your first couple albums when you released them. Your new username made me wonder if you were making a dedicated account for your music or something along those lines.

It has been a while! (God, Boredoms haven't made an album for more than six years now? Scary stuff.) I was really surprised you made a new account, your old one was around everywhere. I started to take it for granted that whenever I found a Japanese band you'd already have at least a couple dozens scrobbles on them. Nice avatar, btw. I just beat Mother 1 a few days ago. It took me like four years of playing it off and on, but I can say I played the whole trilogy now!
