I'll actually agree with you on it sounding really homogeneous and lacking those ultra catchy standout tracks from their previous LP, but I'm really not minding it as a whole either.

In several ways, I can understand everyone's disdain toward her, what with the voices, the costumes, and her lacklusting rapping on some songs despite KILLING IT on most features. It makes her seem more like a product than an artist ("I'M A BRAND BITCH, I'M A BRAND"--funny thing, I saw a licence plate recently that said that). If she'd ditch the outplayed electropop scene and try to do something really different, I think it would pay off in both terms of artistry and respect. I think about how Gaga tried that with Born This Way, but it backfired as a result of too much self-hype and not enough self-editing. Interested in Katy Perry's foray into "darker" music, but I'm almost certain it will just be her version of Rihanna's Rated R. I'm rooting for Ke$ha too, I hope her "cock-rock revival" does big things. Let people say what they want, I think these attention whores in mainstream pop are actually doing some pretty cool things.

It's a bit more screamy than the stuff I usually share. Think William Bonney or Merchant Ships. Still got all those twinkles and stuff.

suppose it's a matter of perspective. i thought her grammy performance of "Roman Holiday" is one of her most outrageously awesome moments, on the album it sounds a lot more sterilized. hip hop tracks were cool. r&b/pop songs are still hard to stomach, and i can only listen to the dancepop numbers when i'm REALLY in the mood. but yeah, you're not the first one to tell me they got a real kick out of it; glad it's really clicking with others.
