HAHAHA! I loved how you tried seriously quoting Arnold. You mean you are in a band as well? Me and my friend are in a band called Seahorse Hunter we do some sort of dream pop/psych music with a lot of vintage electronics and ethereal inspired sounds. I used to create electronic-dream pop music too but I haven't updated my profile for a while. What do you play?

Hey, comrade. Hope all is well over there, and your work is coming along without Jazz distractions! Watching Godzilla (1998). This movie sucks so bad.

Yes, I was amazed by the quality of the people in Black Hearted Brother, that can't be disappointing! I heard one song by this new collaboration and I really liked it. I can't wait to hear more, especially now that I know the album is coming up soon. PS: Yes, you did pollute my shoutbox I'll have to ban you out of my profile for an unknown period of time.

Thanks a lot man! Ride is the only band I'm not familiar with, but I'll definitely check them out! Think you can throw any other recommendations for music to check out? I'm really trying to branch out y'know?

I think Hiero just put out a new album, haven't checked it out though. El-P and Killer Mike, The old Cannibal Ox. If you want Lo-Fi, Stones Throw is great at putting any band on their label.

I was just asking because I find him an interesting historical figure. He was a real gangster-poet, before Pac and Tookie.

Actually, I just wanted to mess up with you! Yes, I do appreciate sharing my interests with others but I never send more than one shout at once. I'm a shout control freak. And I have a blog when I want to write more than 1000 characters. I fee like we live in a "twitter-like" society. Metaphorically, I think this would explain what I mean.

Like Baldwin, check out his essays. God is not Great is an okay book. Yeah, he became a Fox cheerleader. But, again, he had always been that way -- shifting and slithering. He was a true contrarian.

Michael Moore... This guy says he is a regular guy (wealth wise). What a crock of shit. I am glad he doesn't make the rounds much anymore.

Hitchens could write -- he was a good polemicist. I have enjoyed a lot of what he wrote. The atheism bit (just like the Clinton, Kissinger, etc) got old quick, but it WAS FUNNY. To see him go against some zombie newsman was worth waiting the fifteen minutes before he came on. He started to lose ppl around the early 2000's, especially ppl on the left. His support for the wars was, well, creepy. He bacme a cheerleader for the right, for the neocons, which sucks when you consider his true interest: literature.

Maybe you can argue the opposite, but I think the show has gotten worse. Sometimes there are too many liberals. It becomes dull.

Sounds like something I would listen to. You see, I like a roundtable that includes contentious people. That is why I liked Hitchens; you need someone to cause problems on the panel. It is drama that keeps me listening. I liek this new CNN show (CNN SUCKS) AC 360 Later, which is what I am talking about.

Humor, fightsport, politics. I'll check out Ashbrook. I do enjoy the stale format of round table discussion, but in a podcast I have never found a good set of ppl to listen to.

Reading Mary Oliver will open your mind more than a snarky slate article. I think it's important to maintain a consciousness, like an old marxist would do, in order to understand what is going on in the world. I don't know where I am going with this... I am trying to say you can gain a lot from spending your time reading poems, old books etc, and get to the same spot.

You can be informed and at the same time be out of it. Some people can bark back the latest NYT article, or the latest Krugman OP, but are missing the whole point... Read what you like, in my opinion.

Try reading something serious when there are gif post all around you... I stopped reading Gawker after they posted gun owners information on their site. (I am not a gun nut.) I also hate the sex shit they post.

Buzzfeed is stacking cash from gifs and celebz. I appreciate them trying to add serious political commentary/opinion, but I'll bet no one reads that shit.

I see your point. But I do that mostly from surfing the internet, finding articles that might go against my views -- from reading conservative-tinged articles to stalinist ramblings on forums. When I'm driving or riding in the car the last thing I want to hear about are pie makers or mumbling authors; I want news and music -- I want to turn up. But we are always in a bubble, I guess. Our selected exposure is a very powerful thing.

Well, at least Buzzfeed has substance, from what I've seen (outside the gif shit).

Slate is annoying sometimes, but they have good stories in-between the mush. I use it mostly for current news (music, war, tech), or at least I used to, before their new layout change. The Atlantic NYT INT > The National > Slate.

I never visited Gawker much, but I don't do it at all now. And I have been trying to weave myself off of Buzzfeed. These sites are evil. Worldstar for white kids.

I listen to NPR when I'm in the car. It's hit or miss with me, because I hate a lot of the stories/discussion that goes on. Like they did a story about a pie maker...I don't want to hear about a pie maker, I just want a run down/some discussion about the news of the day. Usually Diane Rehm is on when I listen. I was just asking so I could complain about their new layout, which feels like Gawker; I can't tell where any thing is.

You can't escape bullies, comrade. It's especially bad over the net (not that you don't know) because you can't throw down; there is, then, no repercussion for putting someone down. I think that woman was just being smug, and you are probably playing into her hand. I'm not sure if I would consider her a bully or a POS. I like anthologies, too. A poem should be able to stand on its own, most of the time. Anyway, those anthologies are heavily edited; they wouldn't pick an out of place poem.

I wish I could respond to your Slowdive observations but, alas, I have no musical training and couldn't do so in good conscious...People love Soulvaki because it is their best album, that is all I know. Hey, thanks. I have a bunch of quotes I have collected over the last year or two, but more recently Baldwin has been on my mind. Lavrov tryin' to bring gangster back. I know ppl will shit on me, but just grab one of her anthologies.
