I'll have to track that Portishead thing down, then, I guess! My cousin used to tease me and call them Porti-shead. Now - Blonde Redhead's record is pretty great. 50% gold = high strike rate, I think. It's extremely shoe-gazey for the most part, really hazy and airy compared to their last record (if you have it), which I thought was elegant and almost stately, fantasmic in its definition.

Ha! Okay, I'll ignore Beady Belle... I loved Portishead roughly ten years ago or so, y'know, I was a sad teenager like everybody else and loved Dummy in particular. I haven't heard the new record, though. I can't even begin to imagine what it'd be like. Really, the mind boggles! The second album was good but tiring. Dare I ask?

Yeah, 'Turtle Island' was my favourite for ages! 'You came to me' and 'Holy dances' have grown on me heaps in the past week, and I really want someone to do a more concise, understated dance mix of 'Astronaut'. What's Beady Belle? Iron & Wine played here recently and most people said it consisted of cringeworthy funk jams. Weird.

Well, I hope for your sake they swing by your nation! I think they might be coming here in August. Do you like the first album much? I didn't dig Devotion for a while because it felt too clean and weird by comparison. I think the beat in 'Heart of Chambers' (if I recall) still bugs me a little.

Absolutely, I'm crazy about it - I listen to it a lot in the car. Have you had the good fortune to see them live yet? They are hopefully coming here in winter. The thought thrills me!
