That is quite fine! If you like John Hopkins then you may like Helios, little tip for you there. HOORAY for Moondog and yesss i have listened to some Sun Ra, but probably not as much as I should... so I will do that NOW!

Ooh yeah, it's fantastic, ain't it. Red Curbs Loop is definitely my favourite so far. Think it's going to have made its way into my top songs before the year's out.

Oh, good to hear that! Simple Song is one of my favourites and it's frustratingly difficult to find stuff by Zebra. I'm glad you liked Gossip, too. It's one of the two tracks I didn't play on the night but I really love it; it just doesn't completely fit comfortably in with everything else. I found it on a compilation album of New Orleans funk and the whole album is really interesting and I just hadn't heard anything similar with all the weird African, Indian and other influences, alongside the fact that a few of the tracks are quite rock n roll-y as well. But yeah enough of my rambling, it's just really good. I have vol. 2 in .flac but I'll probably end up shelling out for it in physical form soon.

Sick, I look forward to seeing them! I understand what you mean about acoustic tracks - I'm not one to search out endless live acoustic versions of songs, but Codex really chimed with me. Ha, I briefly attempted to teach myself to skateboard for a while in yr7, but to no avail. And I wish I could, but I'm hopefully going to be working at Big Chill that weekend and seeing Kanye West aha. If that falls through I'll probably buy a Field Day ticket. Are you going to any other festivals this summer?

Yeah, Codex and Give Up the Ghost are definitely my favourites. I wasn't all that enamoured by the rest of the album - seemed slightly mediocre in comparison to the rest of their output. Haha, the Deaths Grips videos are great. They make me wish I could skateboard! And no, I haven't heard it yet. I'll put it on my 'to listen to' list. Are you going to Three Trapped Tigers next week? It's the day before my first exam but I don't think I can resist.

Ooh, that reminds me that your CD stopped working about halfway into the 3rd track and I meant to tell you this and beg you unashamedly to make another one but I completely forgot :( But yeah of course I will - do you mean a playlist of the stuff I played or a playlist of similar stuff?

Yeah, of course! Are you going to Tom's tonight? I'm not yet sure whether I'm going or not but if I do make an appearance I'll try to remember to bring a CD with me. I was meaning to tell you that I really enjoyed your set too, so if you get the time to put some of that together I would be very happy! Yeah the talks were good. I ended up going to all 3 events that night and hadn't signed up for the Don Paterson one but found that the best of them all. Very talented and very funny. Did you go to see Stuart Maconie and Paul Morley? I was a bit disappointed by that. I was expecting it to be a bit more ~interactive~ and overall found it to be a bit too much of the same old "good old days" talk.

Prurient's collaboration with Giffoni is pretty sick. I have it on CD si tu veux. If it's solo work you're after, check out 'Pleasure Ground'. One problem with P's solo stuff is that it's hard to forget that the records are not even slightly as good as a live performance. The collaborations work better because the whole creative process is put into the recording as an entity itself. Still, Pleasure Ground manages to be great regardless.

I forgot to mention it earlier because I glossed over Merzbow, but his collaboration with Carlos Giffoni and Jim O'Rourke 'Electric Dress' was one of my first noise loves. 'Synth Destruction' is another live set from him and Giffoni and might actually be better, but Electric Dress will always have a special place in my heart.

A good selection. Soft Punk is an insane random laptop mash-up. Saw A Halo is a bit more psych/drone, as is At All Ends. The latter is fucking brilliant. I'm tempted to even liken it to post-rock in its "epic grandiosity" which is the phrase that springs to mind right now. I don't know how accurate that is given how tainted my ears are to this stuff. And All Are Guests At The House Of The Lord is sublime - I'll leave it there before I ruin that one with bullshit as well. If any of the albums deserves to speak for itself, it's that one.

Well, you already know about my Merzbow obsession. Other than that, I'm really liking Prurient at the moment. His collaborations with Carlos Giffoni and Kevin Drumm in particular are getting played a lot chez Hobsnob. Both of them are worth looking up as artists in their own right. Drumm does a lot of analogue drone, which Giffoni also tried in "Arrogance". Other than that, Giffoni is quite prolific but does a lot of laptop noise. The whole Wolf Eyes/ Aaron Dilloway/Nate Young etc scene is worth a look, but you didn't need me to tell you that... John Wiese, Yellow Swans, Mouthus... Machinefabriek's noisier stuff is probably what first sparked my interest (Hieperdepdiep was the track)... I could do a comprehensive list but that's enough for now. I deliberately kept it to the 'noisier' types, but really the lines between psych, drone, noise etc etc etc are all so blurred it's all a bit futile.
