The Lightning Bolt records are weird... one of them I know was mixed direct to 2-track DAT in their house... You record anything that way and drums aren't going to sound like drums on other records. Give into what it is and you'll have a good time. Make sure you see them when they come through your town!

Woooo! a gig! well enjoy! :p We're off to see Brakes where we're doing some dogsbody work in exchange for free entry which is handy :) Yes, Blue Roses (or Laura Groves as her mum probably knows her better) is a lass local to us that we've watched ascend from the local scene to having her own album properly released and also getting some coverage nationally (she's in Q this month) so it's a lovely experience. She's also a friend too so we're really rooting for her to do as well as she wants :) Give it a spin. She gets Joni Mitchell/Kate Bush/Bjork comparisons sometimes but see what you think? Yup, had a B&S-fest which has nudged them sufficiently up my stats! If I've not heard them in their entirity then I've certainly heard odd and ends off them. I've actually got the queued up to listen after I've finished this rather long playlist I've made of random stuff we've got on cd. We've ripped all our cds to a dedicated hard drive and access it via Windows Media Player which seems to be having issues managing the large library so I'll often use Spotify when WMP is playing up even if I've got the cd because I want my scrobbles! lol Anyhow, atm it's behaving so I've made hay (read: random assortment playlist) while the sun shines (read: WMP behaving!). So when i've done that, i'll be on to the earlier works of B&S! :) Assume by random assortment that you're 6Music-ing? Not heard any this week so if the most major music discovery of the decade has been found by Steve Lamacq, you're going to have to fill me in what it is! lol

Oh gosh, you've really got to talk to the Other Half if you're on to detail about TWP, etc! I'm very much an apprentice! lol I do know I managed to get hold a copy of Cinerama's Live in Belfast for his birthday, and it felt like the best received present I have ever given someone! lol Just had a small epiphany that Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell are not the same person! I knew that but forgot Cornell is Soundgarden not Pearl Jam! lol When reading up on them via Wikipedia, it appears they overlap at something called "Temple of Dog"? So feel slightly less like a numpty now! Anyhow, like them both vocally although will approach latest Cornell effort with Timbaland on Spotify with caution! Other numpty behaviour has included thinking for a whole minute that Sam's OCS was Ocean Colour Scene until reason and logic kicked in that surely the latter is too mainstream, and indeed it was...lol

Hmm, well even in BBC don't snaffle and record it (and surely they will out of habit even if not to broadcast) am sure Dave and his Scoptiones will put it out in some format eventually! I've never known a band (well, bands) have their output so comprehensively out on CD like TWP and Cinerama! Recently been dabbling about with Ladyhawke, Dragonette and today 60s stuff, some Stones and now I've gone a bit harder on to the Pearl Jam (never heard Vitalogy before but I really like it - no wonder it's a leg-end album! lol) then might get a bit harder and try some Audioslave. I'm in mood for rough man vocals today! Got the windows open (lovely day here) so am sure neighbourhood is appreciating my eclectic musical taste, ahem! lol

Yes, that's a thought so I've had a neb about the BBC 2 site and I couldn't see a mention of it being broadcast but it's in association with the "BBC Big Band" - well you wouldn't use a "little band" would you? unless in a confined space, maybe...anyhow! lol So perhaps all BBC BB activity is associated with Radio 2 as most fitting station for their style? Anyhow if being recorded, shall whoop "big up the Last FM massive - especially Dearl!" or maybe not...am a shy retiring type usually! lol what's new in your world? or even just being re-explored?

Twas rather an odd pairing, yes, assume maybe they know each other from hanging about around Camden or something (as well as the music scene generally!). As for Gedgey with an orchestra - yes, v much looking forward to it! Wondering if he'll don a tuxedo and go all "Morrissey" with it! hee hee I think there might be some Cinerama action in there as well as TWP! Michael is particularly excited about hearing some Seamonsters action (including Dalliance) so fingers Xed for some of that! I'd imagine they'll be some Take Fountain too as that's already quite orchestral in places, etc.

Well I could have done with more Graham as I thought he was supporting and they dipping into guitaring on PDs set but actually he just guitared on PDs set and didn't do any of his own stuff so bit disappointed but enjoyed it all the same. I'm not as familar with PD as most of the audience and it was a sell-out so did feel rather like being in a rugby crowd at times! lol Have seen Gedgemeister a few times now - best so far in Blackpool Tower! Other half is a *massive* Dave fan and I'm definitely catching on! Oh that's interesting! I've never seen him live either solo or in Blur/Seymour format but he does look rather sulky and sullen if he fancied it...lol However the other half is teaching me the art of watching sulky, temperamental performers - all men incidentally ;). So far have seen Morrissey,, David Gedge (Wedding Present) and Stephen Merritt (in Mag Fields guise) and they've not had a strop but I could see their potential! So hopefully Graham will be in jovial mood although I find that Leeds crowds are often "too cool for school" to really participate in gigs and I think that's a bit unfair on artists that deserve more audience response so I'd imagine would be more likely to produce a sulky set! Also be interested to see what Pete(r) Doherty is like - now there is man with a reputation for erratic perfomance! I think he's pulled himself together a bit recently so hoping he'll turn up and also be worth the headlining spot! lol

You learn all sorts and really a lot of sparks off seeing what others are listening to. I often get "randoms" visiting that I have apparently nothing in common with - no friends, posts, gigs, location, even music taste! I do wonder how they found me and why they wanted to visit! Oh congratulations on your new black box jobby of subscription on the corner of your pic...lol how does it feel? I did prefer it when it was distinguishable by colour (I think subscribers were blue, non were grey, moderators were orange, etc). Pleased to here you're nosy too! hee hee I do like Spotify but unlike here, you have to bring your own inspiration to decide what to listen to. Currently am working way through CDs on my Amazon Wishlist to determine if I still want them (less Garbage, more GZMynci so far! lol).

I'd say. Certainly for £1.50 you might as well try it out for a month and see! it's less than half price that a Q magazine or something! lol Also although it doesn't probably have as much catalogue as Spotify, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than their £9.99 a month! I'm on Spotify but don't subscribe (I really don't see why you would atm - the ads aren't that invasive, i think) You get more features as in you can listen to your own playlist/ loved tracks/ recommendations/ radio station, etc or whatever of those that you can't do now as an unsubscriber. Most interesting thing (because I am nosy) is the ability to see who has visited you recently. I've struck up some good chats with people on here like you just by noticing their visit and repaying the act and getting chatting :) So for £1.50, give it go ;)

Yup, did Deerhunter - Microcastles and Weird Era back to back on Spotify. Definitely better than Animal Collective although ACs Sung Tongs is not dissimilar to DH so i'd recommend that to get into them. Also got told about Atlas Sound so listened to "Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel" (catchy title there...) straight after Weird Era and I couldn't tell where DH ended and AS started - so try them if you've not already. got this advice off Midford on here so i'd say hello to her if you don't know her - you sound like you'd have stuff in common! :) I'm not had much of a 6music fest recently. I get grumpy at the Scrobbler (as previously said) so I'm Spotifying for a bit :)
