First Reformed is written and directed by Paul Schrader, who wrote Taxi Driver, and v much feels like a modern day update of Taxi Driver with a different setting & personally I connected with it much more deeply. It's like a slow burn thriller.

Ugh dude tbh that new veil of maya album was VERY disappointing. It would be one thing if they put out two shit singles ahead of time to give me an advanced warning but nope, they put out two tracks that I ended up loving.... despite the fairly obvious total lack of the death roots that made pre-2013 veil so great. Essentially, they've totally abandoned any remaining extreme metal elements in their instrumental sound in favor of pure "djent" bullshit. Rap peaked in 2016 because in 2016 you can listen from rap from 1979 to 2016. Music necessarily gets better each and every year. The fact that some people don't realize this is depressing.

thanks! and well recently I've been on a quest to find really disturbing/scary music, and my favorite thing so far that I've come across is this avant-garde/orchestral rock guy Scott Walker, specifically his album The Drift. It's very odd, but it's some of the most dread/fear-inducing music I've ever heard haha, if that's anything that would appeal to you. It's definitely something to listen to when looking for that atmospheric horror movie music type experience. I kinda found my way onto this quest after getting into The Blood Brothers and other noise-influenced, chaotic, fear/dread-inducing post- hardcore/indie with unique instrumentation such as The Paper Chase (really awesome band, although they're occasionally hard to listen to. but the blood brothers can be that way as well, as I'm sure you know. the paper chase is essentially sadistic [but fun] horror movie orchestral indie/noise rock, like an insane violent version of Cursive or something haha).
