did you ever listen to the "Wuppdeckmischmampflow" dj mix? definitely my favorite of the year along with dixon's "live at robert johnson vol. 8."

haha i was assuming something like that happened. What are your favorite albums from them? Also, what do you think about the uncle acid and the deadbeats album, it recently surged in popularity.

thanks, your list is pretty great too. Still have to check out Indian ahh. I'm probably only going to have like 4 or 5 metal albums in my top 50 when I really think about it though. I'm just happy I've enjoyed more metal this year than usual, as well as jazz and hip-hop.

Yea, I've been trying to listen to a lot of metal to figure out what my favorites are as well. It's probably easiest if I split it by genre so... Thrash Metal: Vektor - Outer Isolation, Havok - Time is Up, Absu - Abzu (eh black/thrash metal, whatever). Death Metal: Ulcerate - The Destroyers of All, Mitochondrion - Parasignosis. Black Metal: Woods of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason, Krallice - Diotima. Doom Metal: 40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room, Blood Ceremony - Living With the Ancients, Corrupted - Garten der Unbewusstheit. I'd hesitate to call the doom metal albums actually "metal" albums but... yea. Still a lot more to listen to though. However, I'm not sure how many would end up on my top 50 of 2011 list because it's been such a great year in music for a lot of other genres/styles of music in my opinion.

that solitude record is really bad stuff. graveyard and devil's blood, well and opeth now, do it much better. the Morne album on the other hand is excellent. :-)

Wow, I totally agree about Disma. That album did nothing for me and I was surprised at how much love it was getting. I was generally happy with the list and considering it was one guy making the list, I can understand how preference played into a lot of the list. I never could get into that In Solitude record nor the Morne record. There were some releases on there I hadn't listened to that I'll definitely be checking as well e.g. subrosa, thou, tombs. I'll probably be checking out that Indian record too, I've heard a lot of good things about it.

If you get a chance, check out that Dead Reptile Shrine I upped over at sib narc. Not sure if it's your cup of tea, but it sure is mine.

I still think Eve is their most cohesive effort. Idolum is the best mix of Eve's psychedelic jam-y-ness and Snailking's heavier-than-thou style.

i've listened to it a couple of times and i have to say that it was a bit of a struggle to make it through the whole album. it's definitely not as good as i had hoped it would be but there's some enjoyable tracks on there. it may grow on me though. i had a similar opinion about the machinedrum album from this year but now that's grown to be one of my favorites albums from this year.

They kind of remind me of Portal. And, yes, 'Severant' is ace, though I still prefer the Roly Porter album. By the way, lol at the comment below me.

It's up. His split with Cold Cave is also pretty awesome; much more drone than noise.

I checked out 'Bermuda Drain' recently and quite enjoyed it. I can upload it over at the Narc of you're interested.

thanks a lot for the silent season rec's - i had no idea where to really start. and Black Up is such a great record. Definitely in my top 3 hip-hop albums for this year at least. Have you ever checked out DJ Rashad? His most recent album has been on repeat (particularly Ghetto Tekz Runnin It and the second half of the record). The new Bangs & Works album is some pretty good juke/footwork too.

hey listened to those wittr and yob releases and they were pretty great. can't say i love yob's vocals though. i have a question, what are your favorite releases from silent season? i've listened to the alteria percepsyne album (which i love) and the four most recent albums excluding the asc release and they were decent.

much better than I expected, especially the vocals. the mitochondrion-y style kinda annoys me, but ritual do it very well. I also love the eerieness. still I need to hear it more often because I cant really distinguish songs and everything feels kinda same to me.

Fair enough. I can dig death metal. Yeah, I really like that Byetone, too. Am currently being molested by that new Jackie-O; excellent stuff.

I saw you and TCPC talking about metal. I'm a bit of a dabbler myself and, if I may, I would strongly recommend all three releases by Giant Squid. Incredible progressive stuff.

haha yea. that abzu is pretty good, especially that last track. just finished listening to the new woods of desolation album from this year and that was pretty awesome (i'm a sucker for well done atmospheric black metal). yea, profound lore tends to be a reliable label as far as metal goes. I've heard wonderful things about that YOB album so i'll be checking that out soon. i think there's been some post-metal posted on sib narc but i could be wrong. Boris' Flood and the new Corrupted album seem like other good choices off the top of my head.

at the moment, i like .neon a lot more. the new album, agape, doesn't hit as hard and isn't as melodic during its harsher moments. it's a lot more reserved/quieter, which isn't what i was particularly hoping for in a new lantlos album as i could go to alcest's stuff for that. definitely a couple solid tracks though, particularly the last one. i haven't listened to too much metal from this year so i'm trying to catch up on a lot of things. and if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

glad you're enjoying that Phoenecia! Also glad to see Deftones in your charts, haha - people crap on them, but I really think it's 100% based on who they got lumped in with. I will sit down with anyone with open ears and explain why White Pony is an incredible album. Anyway, sensing no lull in the SN post rate, I'll probably just do a Phoenecia post this afternoon - hopefully I can write a description tantalizing enough to ensure everyone checks it out!

reminds me a lot of one of my favorite releases of the year - Phoenecia's Demissions. If you haven't listened to that one yet, holy crap please do. I'm probably going to post it in sibilant soon, but I want to give people some time to get through all that Hood and Xela first!

I agree about Planks. the end of the LP is where their earlier EP starts though. I think that piano track is some kind of messed up interlude.
