Sorry, just saw this; I don't come here very often. Thanks for the recommendation! It's ok. Reminds me a bit of U2, with Michael Stipe singing. Are you connected with the band?

It must be my accent, but every time - and I mean _every_ time - I say their name to someone they always think I'm saying "Populate Itself".

I have to agree - I prefer The Sensual World to Flower of the Mountain. I'm not sure that many of the new versions are improvements, but I do find them interesting, at least, and it has forced me to listen again to what I thought at the time was some of her weaker stuff. I rather like the new version of Never Be Mine. Very much looking forward to the new album, though it falls into the thick of my Christmas music listening. ;-) The new Dan Mangan (Vancouver folkie-ish singer) came out today, so I'll have that on repeat a bunch, letting it sink in.

I'd never even heard of them (nor come across them) till now, and I trust your judgement quite implicitly so that's that! They sound great, by all accounts. I *wish* I was in Europe, yes I do, but alas stuck in Melbourne for the next while with uni et al. Do enjoy it for me though, and tell me how it is. Also, here's a new favourite band for me, a new favourite band for you. [The Mandarin] is a phenomenal album.

Thanks for the info! I think Lucy is going to Parts & Labor, but I just want to see Teeth of the Sea. My friend's birthday is nearby so I will probably just pop up there at 9ish.

yeah, youre right, i remember the first time i saw them, i was only into a few of their songs. after that i did my homework and came back to their shows knowing their stuff 100%. each beat, each strum that came down was as rhythmic to me as my own breathing. then it was spectacular! i had galaxie500 on itunes for a bit but it never kept my attention so i deleted them to save some harddrive space. i do this often and wonder if i'm missing something great just cos i didnt give it enough of a chance :s hmm yeah i can imagine bowlie being a bit sleepy.. but wouldn't have missed camera obscura for the world! i think line-up compatibility for me was 90% or something.. GUTTED i couldnt make it lol. any gigs comin up for you?

Are you managing to catch the amazing Jane Siberry when she's in town your way? I'm not sure if it's something to come, or something that has been - but definitely do what you can to see if you can get in :)

GY!BE and Bowie are so musically opposite to each other I've never thought of this resemblance. But, yeah, it's true... by the way, I can't help hearing the White Duke's voice all through LCD's latest record. Take "All I Want": it sounds like a stunning cover of "Heroes", with the same sliding guitar and pop-avantgarde combination. I still don't know if it's brilliant tribute or shameless plagiarism, but I like it :)

You grabbed my hand and we fell into it like a daydream or a fever. That was my second choice, but then I thought that the "Kiss me" line was more impressive. That song is way too stirring if not devastating... I can't listen to it anymore. But at least I still can get some sort of pleasure from the lyrics. I like your taste, anyway :)

Aw yeah I think The National are much better in smaller venues. I've saw them twice in really intimate clubs and they were amazing. They've yet to add an Irish date to their tour at the moment though! I hadn't gotten any of the tracks before release so I'm just getting stuck into it now, I think Alligator will always be their best although I'm not going to say High Violet won't grow on me as much as Boxer did, its definitely better than The Virginia EP anyway.

Up and down as usual. As good as ever I suppose! Writing, procrastinating, listening to 'Til I Die by the Beach Boys over and over again. In the meantime, uni rolls along toward the conclusion of the semester and work needs to be done, but that can wait. I feel like I just want to get up and dance right now, but I'm stuck in class haha. I'll send you some things later on, maybe. You?

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately by the time I phoned them, they were sold out too. They said it was because they'd given such large allocations to the ticket agencies ...
