Happy 16th scrobbling anniversary today! ... How time passed by listening to your over 18.4k bands, ain't it so? ... May you have many more such musical birthdays, and many good things in the years to come! ... btw: What are your thoughts about lastfm these days ( and if you still remember, what did you think back when you joined )?

Hahaha how was Zaliva-D half a year ago? Dropped the ball on responding, but I hope you're doing well in the current circumstances. Got the urge to give ya a random update. Turns out I didn't dive much deeper into sinotronics, though who knows what fancy will strike when. Hyped for when that 4-track drops on Knekelhuis in a few days. But very, very tangentially, I'm up after finishing a long-ass project and unwinding to this label here: https://daily.bandcamp.com/scene-report/genjing-records-label-profile The first two features, https://genjingrecords.bandcamp.com/album/what-happened-after-1001-nights and https://genjingrecords.bandcamp.com/album/music-for-advertisements-7 are something I think you'll get a kick out of, I've yet to get futher. I also got instantly entranced by https://junechikuma.bandcamp.com/album/les-archives

Oh no way did we both stumble on D Force Records the same week? Goooose and 33EMYBW etc?

So cool that you know of Shoista Mulledzhoneva. She was my grandmother’s closest friend, sadly they passed away within the same year. Great library

I'm slow to respond as usual. Love the lo-fi and the weird laugh track throughout, thanks again. I've been sitting on Puma Blue's "Blood Loss" EP and King Krule's "The Ooz" a lot lately, not as freakfolky as what we usually share but thought I'd mention. Also, The Bees "Sunshine Hit Me" album is outstanding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR81dZyWn_E Lastly you're probably familiar but I think you'd like the Discrepant label, https://discrepant.bandcamp.com/music. Mulago Sound Studio and Beauté des Mirages are my favorite soundscapes on there.

Hey, have you happened to come across anything that's a haunted take on Hawaiian or other "tropical" music (the slide guitar is so signature though)? I can't get the sound of this tune out of my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr2C0jkVQfE Something that comes close to a similar atmosphere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qmQggKL9HY

Well, pretty much the exact right aesthetic, thanks! I see the whole Internet hears The Residents' influence here. Kinda goes overboard with the effects over soundscaping but definitely cool. Did you use to know The Caretaker?

https://anarchestra.bandcamp.com or http://www.anarchestra.net/index2.php Moondog-esque jazzy stuff made on over 200 unique, custom-made instruments. I haven't gone through it much but seems pretty well put together, gots a New Orleans kinda freaky music jam vibe. Figured it's something you'd wanna look into.

I'm assuming you know Moondog since you've scrobbled him but with 6 randoms it could've been in passing. If you're not familiar, he's an experimental jazz chap from 40s-70s New York, really had a knack for humor in composition, maybe dove into some musique concrète ideals (haven't listened to his discography as much as I oughta, so I dunno how deep his appreciation for the sounds of the city really went). If nothing else, I absolutely recommend Sax Pax for a Sax, it's way late in his career (1994), but absolutely HILARIOUS and very, very well-expressed saxophone stuff.

So I made this list of electro music (but *only* electro) I like based on my last.fm data - https://www.dropbox.com/s/whv2xsrzasmn1f4/electro%20list.pdf?dl=0 - wouldn't have fit in this 1000 symbol-box, it has 37 URLs to tracks on last.fm & some comments.. Hope this will clarify everything o:

Schönberg was the climax of musical rationalization, imo; while that's true, I also think he is an exception & he exaggerated way to much :P e.g. Beethoven (my favorite composer of all time, after Chopin... <33) may have followed certain musical structures but he did so subconsciously & without that being his ultimate objective. he broke many rules & wrote so many spontaneous pieces in his little "conversation book" he had with him all the time :D welp, Brahms discarded everything that was not absolutely perfect & fitted his ideals & wasn't good with melodies, true, but Schubert was! :D you know his songs? He was a pretty awesome songwriter (he called them "Lieder" because he didn't speak english :P). Of course I understand the difference to asian spiritual concepts, but if you want to argue that way then french music was "not better" - (& no, none of them knows it... Maybe they heard it somewhere once, but I'm 100% positive they've never heard of any Aram Khatchaturian)

Concerning Scelsi I knew that & all, but I wouldn't say that, even with that in mind, his music sounds "locker" :D (did you know he was depressed & had days where he would repeatedly press the same key on his piano for hours?)... Don't know about Messaien that much, though, have to do my research (I even have to look up how to write his name everytime... with all those vowels & stuff) "ondes Martenot" doesn't remind me of anything.... I know some préludes & his catalogue d'oiseaux (Bird Catalogue) which I like because of the idea but not that much because of the realization

But despite everything, I'm proud to be a Freak-Nerd, how that friend of mine put it ^^ if I am to describe my taste to strangers that I assume to be non-musicians I usually simplifyingly say "Classical, Jazz, Electro, Punk... sometimes Metal &... Uhm... Japanese stuff" but I've never properly explained my music taste to anyone by... well... "explaining" until now :D just by befriending them & showing them something, discussing it afterwards. Welp, I guess it is a good start to say, that I adore female vocals very much but I utterly detest those modern, piano playing Alt singers... I ttly cringe @ Adèle & the such but I guess Ellie Goulding is okay (you should know her, she's English >`w> (also, what do you mean by eurasian? were you born in one of the "-stan"s?)). I love drum & bass, "happy core" (if that counts as a genre..), glitchy stuff, I like it when electronic music sounds "otherworldly" or "transcendental", but minimalistic electro can bore me if it's too... emotionless(?)

You people are, to say it with Trump's words, INSANE :D but in a good way... I guess... A friend of mine also has a ridiculously diverse library which consists of stuff I've never heard of & mocks me for listening to the same song over & over again... However he has lots & lots of music he only listened to once & doesn't even remember it whereas I know my music very thoroughly. To me relistening what I already have both serves to deepen the understanding & dignifying something I recognize as a great piece. Therefore you will find the music you might know further towards the middle / the end of my library, I looked over it & found that the first few pages are actually full of J-Pop & Game OST... whoops, kinda puts me in an unsophisticated light |D Also I just skimmed my first two pages & lemme guess: The three non-classical arists were Slowdive, The Caretaker & Broadcast? :D Kinda surprising, though. Would've expected more than three

can you recommend me any non-eastern pop that is not absolutely boring &/or embarassing? in spite of loving last.fm's system (don't get me wrong: I still hate the beta design |D ) I never really looked through every recommendation because it'd be easy to get lost in the ocean of the unknown... I wouldn't know where to begin... & where to end... "orz - so I prefer actual people giving me recommendations ..... also do you listen to any elctronic music? I found nothing in your library that would ring a bell (apart from aphex twin)

wow, who would've expected you were into japanese music once ô.o & you know some phrases in german & japanese... hmm.... I guess you're neither german nor english, are you? my first guess was that you're from russia :D (or someplace that has been part of the soviet union) , am I right? it weren't the russian composers in your library, that convinced me to think that, but aram khatchaturian, who is utterly unknown to my german potatoes over here :P (I live in germany but am actually russian), otherwise maybe 'murica?

It is far from my intention to spam to your shoutbox but I couldn't help but remark you; I went through your artist library & gave up as far as page 16 when I realized you have 255 (!!) pages full of artists of which roughly 80% are utterly & absolutely unknown to me, I am dazed & would like to know how you have such a large & fricking sophisticated library?

wow, what can I say, I'm kinda blown away by your library >___> I can't believe I know nearly nothing from your library apart from most of the classical stuff & some "comparably mainstream" artists (Stereolab, Broadcast, Velvet Underground, Aphex Twin, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, The Caretaker, Animal Collective ... aand... well, duh: Elvis Presley & Pink Floyd... anything that links them, apart from them being somewhat pop-ish?)... & even in the classical genre you do surprise me quite a lot - you know Per Nørgård, Giacinto Scelsi, Olivier Messiaen, Carl Nielsen, Alexandre Tansmann (I can't believe it, really?!? :D) & good ol' Arvo Pärt! They're quite special, aren't they? some more, some less but I know only one musically involved person that knows Giacinto Scelsi.. and he listens to some very obscure stuff ~ I want to learn something new from you, master |D
