My favorite album by them would have to be Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part 1. It's a concept album about the music industry in general, interesting stuff. There's also Arthur: Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire; a concept album about a young man who fights in WWII and and his life afterwards. Word of Mouth was made in the 80s and sounds like an 80s album, but it shows that the Kinks were still capable of making great albums decades later. There was also a MOJO Magazine compilation CD called the Modern Genius of Ray Davies which had more recent artists performing covers of his work. The Kinks are my favorite band and I could easily spend all day talking about them.

I wanted to see of Montreal in concert, but I have class that night and it's close to finals. I also would've loved to have seen DEVO, but Dave Davies is performing in Agoura Hills that night. Still, great taste.

Wow, many thanks for that live show link! The first one I picked out had a quick story about the anniversary of the day JD's father shaved his own head when he was nine. Glorious. I had a listen to Defiance, Ohio. I hadn't realised Theo was in that band too. Only knew them from being a plan-it-x band and the pink couch sessions. They had some pretty heavy stuff there as well as interesting almost Mount Eerie kind of tracks. I like it a lot, thanks for the recommendation. One of the most moving moments in tMG's history, I'm sure. Ahh yes, that version of Twin Human Highway Flares is so good. Perfect shout-emphasis. The Zoop request sets are particularly great too, especially Alphonse Mambo and If You See Light. Aand California Song if you like those live recordings where the crowd goes waaay off tune. s'delightful really. I've rather evidently become addicted to the live shows but I mean, they even played This Year with a horn section on the Transcendental Youth tour. There are so many gems. Hmm, I don't really know many of your other top artists. I'll have to have a snoop
