Hi. Yep, it's akanji. It' means one in English and it the 'ichi' part of Ryuichi. It's read Sakamoto Ryuichi in kanji/japanese because of the whole surname come last thing.

I load up my ipod with 3 albums from artists starting with A, B, C etc, and then 3 compilations too - the compilations really bump up the artist count, it seems!

Yeah, quick indeed - it seems I haven't set an e-mail filter to catch lastfm related stuff, so it came straight to my phone!

I see you are going to the Mountain Goats next month. That should be a great concert. They were the first major band I ever saw live, and they just blew me away. Have you heard the new album yet? I haven't, but I'm really excited about it.

What do you think of the Johann Johannsson album? Its rather gorgeous to me, definetly one of the best 'electronic' albums i've heard this year along with Squarepusher and Metaform. BTW since I k now you like Gemma Hayes, you might want to check Lisa Hennigan's debut 'Sea Sew', similar female Irish folk.

Man, I'm really surprised at how much I'm likeing this new Calexico album. It is extremely solid. It's much more low-key than Garden Ruin, but it's so consistent I can't hardly stop listening.
