1) Yeah, Russian phonetic system isn't very mellow. Just one example: Lewis Carroll, the author of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", was very impressed by a Russian word which he transcribed as "zashtsheeshtshayoyshtsheeysya" — "защищающийся", "self-defending". But maybe this word wouldn't be as bloodcurdling for you as it was for him, because, according to Wikipedia, Russian "щи" sounds somewhat similar to Japanese "し". :) 2) Yes, Korpiklaani sings on English, but on Finnish too — for example, as far I can remember, all lyrics on their album "Manala" are Finnish, though Limited Edition contains English versions of all songs, too. 3) I know some pretty good Finnish bands, but very few of them are folk metal, because I'm not very much into metal at all, I prefer pure folk, like [artist]Värttinä[/artist]. :) I'm sorry for being useless. :) But you may try [artist]Tarujen saari[/artist] or [artist]Poropetra[/artist]. I also do like [artist]In Extremo[/artist], but they're German.

Thank you for the answer to my question! Now I see that you have the same reasons for listening to Russian metal as I have for listening to Japanese pop: the sound of a language and the quality of the singers. :) But do you know that some Russians think our language sounds very roughly because of "ы" and sibilants? That's why I prefer Finnish folk metal, say, [artist]Korpiklaani[/artist], because Finnish folk is very similar to Russian folk, but Finnish language, as for me, is more euphonic than Russian.
