I will say that I may give it another shot. I've been listening to music that really isn't similar to it so it may be that I need to give it another chance once my current mood has passed.

Well, I managed to get through it 1.5 times. Honestly, I really didn't care for it. I definitely approached it trying to put aside the old DB material but even outside of that frame of mind I still disliked it. The first time around I found myself just struggling not to skip to the next track in each case with the possible exception of the fourth song. I thought perhaps I just needed to give it another spin so I did the next day and found myself with the same reaction.

Oh, I didn't know that's apparently "Der Blutharsch and the Infinite Church of the Leading Hand" now. I looked up the discography and noticed that Der Blutharsch ended in 2009. I also realized that I haven't listened to anything they have released since "The Philosopher's Stone" - or I if I have in fact listened to anything beyond that it left such a small impression that I don't recall having listened to it.

To be honest: I didn't even know what "The Cosmic Trigger" was until I googled it. So I'm guessing that it's not what you were expecting?

I must admit I never have paid as much attention to [artist]Elite[/artist] as they probably deserve. I think I will give them a few more spins this week if I can. Autumn is here so I'm getting back into a black metal frame of mind, I suppose. By the way, I checked out a Polish band called [artist]Wędrujący Wiatr[/artist] and they do a rather convincing [artist]Drudkh[/artist] impression/imitation. Not an amazing artist considering but certainly worth a few listens in my estimation.

Okay, I relented after all and listened to it a few times. :) Based on what I heard, I really like it. It's very familiar - and that's a good thing.

I've been having a very hard time resisting listening to the 128 kbps rip that is floating around out there. But so far I have in fact resisted - call me crazy, but I want to listen to it without all of the audio defects. I did see the teaser Napalm posted and it sounded like it's very very good.

[artist]Caladan Brood[/artist] paints from the same palette as Summoning and are actually not half bad. I think you would probably like it. I'm 99% certain the guy from[artist]Gallowbraid[/artist] is involved. I guess his modus operandi is to model his own projects on the black metal "greats." So I expect a Drudkh-worship album from him next year at this rate. In all seriousness, though, I do think you will like the album.

Enjoyed Mare Cognitum quite a bit... very good atmosphere. You might want to check out [artist]Midnight Odyssey[/artist] - they're not amazing but it's a good listen.

The fourth album "Atlantean Monument" is quite good, varied but less heroic and also less dark. The most recent album "Ales Stenar" is very, very good. I would say it's the most mature and most "organic" feeling album considering the addition of the live fiddle and I believe (not sure on this one) the dulcimer. It also seems the closest to what Darken has said he was going for which is a blend of Dead Can Dance with a hefty inspiration from the Conan The Barbarian soundtrack and significant medieval/early music influence. So I'd recommend the two most recent albums but any of them are good. Take or leave his crazy beliefs - but in my book Darken's always been a great musician.

These days I prefer it over Graveland. I like all of the albums. The first album "Forgotten Songs" is a little different than the others as it's more guitar-oriented and darker. It's probably the most difficult to get into. The black metal influences are clear and as such I feel it does have some uncomfortable parts, particularly with the vocals. The second album " Heralds Of Fight" is probably my favorite but I think it may have to due more with nostalgia than anything. It has a very heroic feel to it. If you're at all familiar with Graveland's discography, think the atmosphere of the "Creed Of Iron"-era material. The third album "Rites of the Valkyries" is the weakest in my opinion. It's okay, but not particularly special although it has some moments.

The new [artist]Skogen[/artist] album "[album artist=Skogen]Eld[/album]" is pretty good. Reminds me of Drudkh with perhaps a touch of old Satyricon or even Arckanum. Their previous two albums aren't bad either but this new one is a bit better in my opinion.
