Yeah, I think that's what does it. Kind of a catch-22 - in order to get scrobbles, you have to get scrobbles! With my band I tried posting on people's pages who I thought would enjoy our stuff, but I hate randomly spamming people like that. I would suggest having some 'featured tracks' on your page - so if you have free downloads available, if people do visit your page, they can see them right there. As you get more listens, you'll get linked to similar artists and possibly start showing up in 'radio' plays of similar artists and genres.
