yes (unironically have some hearing issues, so my motivation has been a bit low on that front, sadly)

Just a bit of otitis that occasionally made me completely deaf in one of my ears, but I got some medication for it and it is (mostly) back to normal, thankfully.

it's written and performed by english people, but sure, go off, king (it's from the Carole & Tuesday OST, which also features Flying Lotus and Thundercat amongst many others)

ye, i've mostly been visiting the backlog or been underwhelmed by releases by some of my favorite artists (besides the new James Blake which was a great album IMO), but the first couple of months are usually the slowest. any releases you are looking out for? I need that new CRJ so badly

it's a rollercoaster in terms of overall quality and aesthetics (not even close to OK Computer lmao), but the peaks are actually quite good. don't think there have been many albums that I have listened to recently that features so many of the best (it's not living, love it if we made it and i always wanna die) and worst (tootimetoo sincerity is scary, the man who married a robot/love theme) songs of the year at the same time

yeah, I've been listening to a bunch of different stuff just to get an impression of them, to see if they are worth delving into any further or not (also lists have been coming out, so I want to check out as much as possible)

yeah, you're not completely wrong, but at the same time, I can't always give a record more than once chance to impress me with all the stuff that is out there, and I think I know my tastes decently well at this point. but yeah, I know the struggle of being too fantano/rym core, so I have expanded a bit a started paying attention to other places too (such as r/indieheads). that said, I try to not get too affected by them (antony gave two of my aoty last year a 6/10 and a 4/10 respectively, after all) and think more about how the work connects to me personally in any way and why it appeals to my tastes (which can be anything from sharing a similar life philosophy to just something superficial that it's cool and makes me feel good on the inside)

right, I guess you're right that after a while you kinda know, although I think that it's when you get familiar with the music when you really start enjoying it. i suppose im a bit traumatized as it probably only happened less than ten times that I didn't like a record at first and started liking it with subsequent listens but I see where u coming from

yeah, there are exceptions to every rule of course (one of my favorite albums from last year, the ooz by king krule, was probably one of my least favorite albums on first listen, but it grew on me immensely once I started feeling like I understood what he was going for)

still got a few tracks left to listen to (got interrupted before I had the chance to finish it), but I'm willing to agree, with a few exceptions. really hate the trend of major hip-hop artists (GOOD music signees aside) releasing long, bloated and filler-full albums for the streaming numbers

Yeah. That aside, I feel like Drake is totally stagnating as an artist. The songs structures are super simple, there's no huge magnamous songs like Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2, there's no experimentation, no song feels as hard hitting as No Tellin'. March 14 kind of reaches the level of sentimentality and introspection that he got so easily in songs like Look What You've Done and Marvin's Room in Take Care, but I feel like nothing must be really going on in his life. I feel like I got very accurate descriptions of the dude who Drake was in Take Care and NWTS, which apparently he doesn't feel like doing anymore. I feel like he has less charisma, and tbh all songs from Views, More Life and Scorpion feel like they could be in the same album. Nice For What is one of his best songs tho

yeah, pretty much, haven't cared for anything he has put out since IYRTITL, really. he really just shines when it comes to releasing a good single every now and then, at least nowadays. hated some of the cringey bars about social media, especially on Emotionless. only thing I am happy about is that he at least abandoned the dancehall thing he had going on Views.

yeah the dancehall shit was trash, except for Passionfruit. also it's funny how he used the grime shit for three songs on one album and that was it lol. the social media lines could've been done better but they're not that bad. It's just odd that dude's like 32 and rapping about IG so much

Yeah, can't believe he rips the mic without talking about guns, hoes and jewels, truly the savior of the genre

mostly just kinda sour on how (uncreatively) it uses the Moby sample tbh, especially, after ASAP's part ends not digging the album overall, honestly
