Happy 11th scrobbling anniversary! ... Congratulations for this, and your 411k scrobbles ! ... How time passes by enjoying amazing bands, isn't it so? ... What do you favour best about lastfm now, and what did you like back when you joined over a decade ago?... P.S. I present this song (e.g. at spotify/tidal) to your "birthday": ... genre: minimalistic/experimental -> 15th track, from album ('violin edition (album #1)'): ... "the birds in danger" (this track has 131 BPM) ... https://www.last.fm/music/Erkan+Y%C4%B1lmaz/_/the+birds+in+danger ... Some stuff are missing in the stores these days here in Germany, e.g. noodles, rice, toilet papers, milk... And at your place ?

Hello my friend. I can't believe it's been 11 years. Yesterday was also the anniversary of my username, which I cleverly thought up while in my high school library, and have stuck with ever since. The stats that appeared here used to seem so important, as if I had to shape them according to how I thought I would be perceived. Now I don't care as much what appears here - I will listen to what I listen to because it's what I want to listen to. It's nice to go back and see how my tastes and opinions have changed over time. The stores here are mostly stocked but like yours there are some essentials that run low at times. I've had trouble finding rice but thankfully just a few days ago I was able to grab a five pound bag which should keep me satisfied for some time. What music have you been using to pass the quarantine?

Let's hope the supermarket situation will get better for both of us. It's always interesting how others watch your cart when you have bought something they didn't get anymore :-( ... Yes, time flies fast with good music :-) ... The stats functionality is great here indeed: I wish to have started much much earlier here at lastfm when browsing from time to time! When I joined back then I completely changed my music style! Since I discovered lots of great music here ! ... I have been playing more classical music since the quarantine (since one can play nicely in background while doing tasks) ... What's on your musical agenda for this Saturday today? I will listen later to my new "Release Radar" on spotify

Yes, the stats and conglomerated data here is excellent, though I will be honest in saying I preferred the old last.fm layout. There was something more pleasing to me aesthetically about the original last.fm look that isn't contained in the new one - it's whatever. Honestly I've been passing a lot of quarantine by playing video games with some friends of mine so most of my music is just easy background listening - nothing too abstract or attention-demanding.

Yeah, I liked the old layout also better, but CBS who bought lastfm decided :-( Also, I recently saw someone using the black lastfm layout still on a screenshot (apparently some guy on github made it, not sure if I could find it again). Who knows, when searching more we could find someone who has done more. In the end, we all are music addicts and addiction is a good motivation for (retro-)changes :-) Enjoy your Sunday!

Holy shit those Stars of the Lid scrobbles are mad. What do you do while listening to them?

I enjoy writing and reading - I find their music to be engaging enough to help in those processes but not to the extent where it distracts. They are also the accompaniment to many a late night where I'm just perusing the Internet. I quite enjoy the faint echoes meandering their way through my apartment as I cook, clean, and often sleep.

I can get behind that. You and I have the same amount of plays for Swans. Have you had the chance to see them live?

I've only seen Michael Gira solo and it was quite an experience. A technician kept turning the volume on giras vocals down to the point of him getting mad and shouting "Stop doing that, I don't care about distortion" Im actually going to see them this april and really can't wait. Giras voice is incredibely loud and powerful and his solo concert was deafening so im scared to hear the full band xD Before the concert began you could hear him over the crowd while he was just talking with people around the venue lol

Badass. He's a cool guy and they are very social before and after shows. It's hard to imagine them just rolling into a Village Inn or some shit and mingling with their fans but you know they do it. I saw them live in Dallas 5 years ago when they were touring TBK and it was the second loudest concert I've seen behind Deathprod in Knoxville. My buddy had never heard of them and he turned to me during the show (totally fucked up on some drugs) and his long hair was literally being blown into my face from how much noise was coming through the speakers. Quite the experience.

I believe it was the first release I listened to as well, though I'm partial to Continents. I just checked in and looks like Xièxie was getting quite a lot of love. Have you checked that one out yet? I'm going to try to give it a listen today.

Continents is wonderful as well. I have indeed listened to Xièxie, and I'd say as someone who seems to have similar preferences to you for Celer releases, that it's most certainly worth listening to. It has the same kind of atmosphere around it that a lot of the records mentioned so far have as well.

It sure does. I'll have it on repeat for a bit. In the Middle of the Moving Field is fantastic. What's your favorite ambient album to recommend?

Well, my favorite ambient album (and album in general) is Melancholia by William Basinski, but a lot of people who try ambient have already heard that record. I think albums I'd recommend that are more of "hidden" gems are ones like Aubrite by Thomas Koner, and Decayed Ocean Asylum by hana sumai. You most likely heard a lot of my favorite ambient records though, you seem to listen to a lot of it, if not a lot more than me lol.

Hell yes, what a respectable top album. I am infatuated with Basinski's work. Melancholia is particularly interesting -- dramatic landscapes cascading downwards, a hidden beauty waiting to be unveiled. Big fan. Other than Permafrost I haven't quite acclimated myself to Koner's work, but I will listen to what you have recommended today and tomorrow when I have some time.

I also cannot agree more with the notion that music is a lot more than just background music. Even Eno said that his vision was really just for it to be something played in the background, to be good "setting" music, but I feel like it's evolved into so much more than that. There is simply nothing in the world that invokes emotions in the same was as listening to something like Basinski, or Celer, or any of the other people making moving ambient music. I think this aspect of it all gets lost on a lot of people who don't really appreciate it in the same way.

Yes, I got the pillars and circle filled in from their album And Their Refinement of the Decline, with the circled moved to the right a little bit. The album cover is meant to represent drones being played over time, but provides a double entendre for how a city's skyline can be metaphorical of the same concept. I communicated with Adam and Brian through Facebook before I got it to make sure its meaning was pure. I wrote a short piece on my blog a few years back about how I came to love ambient music. If you feel like doing some light reading, you can find it here: http://www.thelighterdark.com/brian-eno-music-for-airports/ .

Societally, we appear to be seeing a role reversal in regards to how we engage with content, experience, and one another. The obsession with documentation and sharing has hallowed out the experience of doing, and will desecrate the nostalgia of remembering. I think ambient music is a good outlet for to disengage from that, but we must remind ourselves that it too is not procured by the disengaged mind.

Just wanna say I checked out Monochromes Vol. 1 from your listening history and find myself enthralled by it. In fact your LH is great for discovering a lot of ambient I’ve overlooked over the years—thanks for all the indirect recommendations you’ve unknowingly given me.

Tom Waits - Martha stroke a chord with me when i was during the lowest of my lows. It just gives that light at the end of the tunnel feeling when there is no one to model yourself into other than yourself and whoever is faithfully supporting on the very moment where you needed help the most.

Sounds intense, I'll definitely have to keep my eyes open in case he every does a show near me. Being able to catch a show that's far more an experience then just fun or enjoyable is really special. I still remember seeing GYBE at an outdoor festival two years ago and that left me and my friends speechless till we got back to our tents.

Why I like music? Jeez I'm not sure, ever since I can remember I've always had music around me whilst growing up but around 15/16 I started listening to music more heavily and started discovering new things till it got to a point where it became one of my main interests along with Art and Films. I've never been that interested in making my own music though but I wouldent wanna rule that out at the same time. Why do you like music?

T Um' Monochrome 4 is roughly 29 minutes long, you've listened to that song 1,563 times. I roughly worked that out to be 31 days straight of listening to that song back to back. Thats damn impressive. Also is your profile pictures from the Loving Vincent film? If so, what did you think of the film?

Hyper-cathartic? That sounds like quite an experience.. I will have to try it out sooner rather than later. I suppose you rate Password for Entheogenic Experience below Leaves Net as well? I like that one though not as much as Aura Seminalis.
