I don't think I 100% agree, but I can dig that way of looking at it. Just calling it "American dubstep" is definitely enough for people to know what you're referring to, so that works. I usually just call it clubstep; I'm hoping that'll catch on.

What aspects of Skrillex's music (and not his songs that are clearly house tracks) make it dubstep? I mean, it's not the most concretely-defined genre, but I think it's pretty clear that it's part of an as-of-yet unnamed American offshoot. I probably haven't been listening to dubstep for as long as you, but I feel as though Skrillex and the rest of the big names in 'brostep' is something that's just too different to just be thrown in with the rest. What do you think?

Just a quick wonder...Knowing you as the 'tronica' guy of sputnik...have you ever checked out or possibly thought of reviewing Tipper ? I reviewed his newest album but would really love some input from you on him. I've absolutely loved his early ambient stuff but Tip-Hop and Surrounded (especially if you can find a DVD 5.1 surround copy) as some of the greatest post 2000 electronic music out there. New album is pretty sick too.

She's basically minimalistic electronic with a slight dance-y edge. if you want to check her out look into her albums Berlinette and Sool. she also did a collaboration with Apparat called Orchestra of Bubbles that's really cool too
