Thank you so much!! There's nothing quite like Dewotts and Loops :D Your library reminds me that De La Soul and Autechre are quite glaring blind spots in my library and I should really dive into their music at some point! What songs or albums of theirs do you recommend as a good place to start?

Hi Talon, thank you for following me back. What are your thoughts about Cameron Winter’s debut album, Heavy Metal? Greetings

Hello and of course! On first listen, Heavy Metal was immediately a favorite from 2024, and it has continued to grow on me from then on. I haven't been hooked to a single song like I was with Love Takes Miles for a very long time! Many of the song structures and instrumental palettes are unique, really love how much care was put into the record. Cameron Winter is a wildly expressive vocalist as always — on top of his work with Geese, he's so versatile! It's so cool seeing him getting mainstream recognition now too.

Thanks for sharing your comments. It was an insane surprise to me because I didn’t know back when Heavy Metal was realized that he was also in Geese. I found his album really amazing, with peculiar lyrics and a beautiful instrumentation that with his voice, that is quite beautiful (reminded me to Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke in “Drinking age”). Definitely a great surprise at the end of last year.

on another note, I see Stereolab in your recent plays. I've only listened to Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements. it seems like I should absolutely love them, but for some reason I tend to zone out when I try and play a full album of theirs...do you have a favorite song (from any record)? sometimes it helps to just focus on one single song and intently focus until I "get" it.

Those albums are really good comparisons for the sort of feeling I get from FH... and you've reminded me I need to listen to more of Belle and Sebastian's works! Stereolab are one of my favorite bands (heck, they're my #1 overall artist by a wide margin!) and they have such varied sound palettes throughout their discography... Rainbo Conversation is probably my favorite song of theirs overall, though many come close. For a handful of songs from different albums, I also really love Crest, Cybele's Reverie, Puncture in the Radax Permutation, and Naught More Terrific Than Man. And I'd say it's a very close call between Dots and Loops and Cobra and Phases Group as my favorite album... both are absolutely crammed with different musical influences even between individual songs, they're such joys to get lost in!!

ok, so I listened to Dots and Loops and...effing amazing. it's like, a perfect mix of avant-garde but also welcoming, warm and uplifting. I'm going to spin this a lot the next few days I think. it does demand a lot of attention, but seems worth it! I appreciate you recing it, my disconnection from Stereolab can now be declared broken :)

Hello and happy new year!! Thank you for the follow, and I followed you back on RYM! I try to make sure my music listening is preserved on here whenever I can lol. I like to think of Lastfm as a music diary of sorts — being able to look back on what I was listening to on a given date several years ago is something I really value. Though with stuff like apps letting you scrobble through audio recognition, sometimes I fear I've gotten a bit too obsessive about it 😭

Yoohoo and hello from Reddit! Such a magnificent library, excited to discover some new sounds from you. I saw that you were into some stuff like The Go! Team and Stereolab, I wanted to try to recommend something similar, who of course you might already know about, who is PONYTAIL! Glorious art-rock with energetic yelping vocals, beautiful riffs and plenty of experimentation. Even if you already know them, hit me with a recommendation back, and happy listening :-)

Hello, thanks for reaching out here! I haven't heard of Ponytail actually, but they sound very interesting so I'll definitely peep their music! I must recommend Geese and/or their frontman Cameron Winter's solo material, as they're among the most exciting acts in the indie/art rock scene right now. The first two tracks on 3D Country are a great showcase of how versatile they are. They've been debuting new songs live recently, which has me excited that they might announce new studio material soon! I appreciate the recommendation, take care now!

Thank you!! Big ups for Vylet Pony and Coil being so high in your library! You can learn a lot from anybody's libraries, really (although I wish there were an easier/more accessible way to compare libraries outside of Discord bots). I'm a huge fan of Lamp and I feel you might enjoy their music. Their album For Lovers is stunningly good pop with lots of creative influences, jazz and bossa nova being a couple of them.

Thx for the follow, saw you on the TMBG shoutbox years ago. They were my first 'favourite band' when I was a youth, been almost a decade since I was into them, but we all start somewhere... :) As you're into them, you may also enjoy Super Furry Animals, they're a Welsh group who have a similar quirky vibe (they also sound sorta like Blur imo). Their 2001 album Rings Around The World is undoubtably their finest and the one I recommend, cheers ^^

Have you gotten into any trip hop (like Portishead or Massive Attack)? If you dug the Stereolab albums you've listened to, the band Cibo Matto is basically the halfway point between Stereolab and trip hop—their album Stereo Type A might be a great introduction for ya. Open Mike Eagle is an underappreciated rap artist I feel more people should hear, his album Brick Body Kids Still Daydream rules. I've also been listening to Natalia Lafourcade's new album De Todas Las Flores soooo much the past couple months. It's absolutely phenomenal, and I'd recommend it to just about anybody. Hope you enjoy! :D

Hi. You'll get there before you know it, no need to worry about that. Just don't forget to have fun along the way! Problem with having a huge music library is that i'm frequently forgeting names. One of the reasons I followed you was to remind me to listen to more Natalia Lafourcade. :D Plus you're clearly not afraid to stray off the beaten path, Yoshiko Sai, very nice. You've also got a handfull of artists I've never heard of! Hope you're doing well too.

This is my archival account, also my old account I never used - I wanted to import my older Spotify plays (of which there aren't many,) but I also didn't want to mess with my recent stats, so they're on this account for anybody who's curious about how stagnant my music taste was back in early-mid 2019.

That album's got some bangers! One of my friends introduced me to it while we were out on a drive; it works wonders as a vehicle experience. It got me more interested in future funk music in general, I'm gonna check out more music in the genre one of these days. You should totally check it out, it's great!
