Good Choice! Rock’n’Rot from The Outsiders. I would pick out "Ogden's' Nut Gone Flake" from The Small Faces. The album is not exactly obscure, as it was a big hit in the UK, but certainly seems forgotten. On the second side there is in Cockney-Slang the (psychedelic) fairy tale of Happiness Stan, who goes out to search for the other half of the moon. It's funny.

It was probably Black Sabbath who discovered that tuned down guitars and a lot of bass and extremely slow tempi produced a particular sound, which was suitable for the metal-genre. This distortion was decisive in indie-rock and post-punk in the early 90. Sonic Youth sounded sometimes like a aspirin tablet in the water, in the songs of My Bloody Valentine you could hardly hear the rhythm in the drone-fog. --- Anyway: I think it started in 1956 with Elvis. That was only white R & B with hip shaking. Between 1965 and 1969 were the Beatles and Rolling Stones really good (and there were the Kinks, Animals and Who). From "Highway 61" came Bob Dylan with new lyrics and sound. Ecstasy instead exegesis. Jimi Hendrix was one of them. Velvet Underground, Lou Reed and David Bowie transformed the rock into an art form. Important to me are people like Kevin Ayers, John Fahey or Jorma Kaukonen. And of course has the technical innovations an enormous importance.

forgive my late reply! since they redid the site, i've gone from daily visits to weekly to monthly. KV's Pretty Daze tour was a highlight of that summer. Deerhunter may have topped the cake though, on the Monomania tour.

Hey...letting people know (starting w/ my top neighbors) that I've been streaming radio from Last.fm again with great results, due to two recent developments -- 1) you can now go to Settings & choose an exclusive stream provider (I chose YouTube over Spotify), and 2) you can now add missing YouTube links to track pages (I've added hundreds already). This is fantastic, because now users actually can control what's available to stream! How to add music: When you click "add a video" on a track page, there's a handy "search YouTube" link right there (in case you don't have the video link handy for the song). So, you can check the track pages for your Top tracks, Loved tracks, tag lists, tracks from your fave artists, etc. to make sure that there are vids on them (to power the streaming radio function). There's already tons of great music, but if lots of us with great taste add their faves, we'll be in great shape...& hopefully more and more of the old features will return in the meantime.

Hey! Yeah such great times for the end of the year. We went to a friend's house for the new years, it was in the middle of the countryside, so peaceful and freeing. What about you?

Big Last.fm news... as of today, you can add missing Youtube video links to Last.fm track pages. So, you can go down your "top tracks" list (or "favorites" tags) and add any currently-missing song vids. You can also choose (in "Settings") to get songs streamed exclusively from Spotify *or* YouTube (I chose YouTube).

Thanks! Hope you had a great time for Halloween! :) What's up with you? Any new music you'd like to share, I'm listening to the same tracks all over again these days, I need some change!

I'm holding out for 2 things: 1) ability to pick/choose stream providers (e.g., YouTube but not Spotify, or vice versa), and 2) user ability to add song videos/images/etc. I think they'll both come back...they've definitely said the first one is coming.

ey! Just wanted to add that you should probably start with Russell's 'Love is Overtaking Me' or 'Calling Out of Context' which is, I think, the easiest way to get into his work. There are other albums that are absolutely genius but you can't possibly start with all of them so there you go! :)

I'm a little nervous about the change, but I'm holding out hope that most of the missing features will be restored soon. Up until the change, I was adding a lot of missing videos to song pages -- and at that time vids were the only thing powering the radio streams.

Hello, sorry for the late answer, I was on vacation. I'm having a pleasant summer, thank you :) And you? About some recommandations, I'm listening to a lot of Arthur Russell these days and I would recommend him to everyone! Also, in the oldies' collection, you should definitely check out the Soft Machine, the Red Krayola, The United States of America, but you probably know these bands already! Oh and The Necessaries were an excellent indie pop band if you're into it (led by Arthur Russell of course!).
