Nah I had to miss it. I really wanted to go though. One of my professors actually offered to give us a ride. I did get to see Okkervil River though, so that was rad.

i'm doing a science degree, hoping to major in mathematics or something similar. the plan is that i do my ugrad here and go overseas for my postgrad, hopefully. haha i know right, it feels like only yesterday that i was 15 and scouring the forums and bugging you guys for new music. yeah i've mellowed out compared to what i used to listen to, it's just the way i've headed i guess. triple j (my local radio) has a bit of an influence on what i hear on the scene as well.

yeah i don't really do forums nowadays, just blogs and whatnot. ah man you sound like you're having a good life, i didn't realise you had already graduated! i started college this year; it's a blast, no teachers telling me what i need to do and whatnot - i love it. you still into the same stuff as you were back then (stoner rock, metal etc)?

i went on gprime for the first time in about 10 months or so, and got all sentimental n shit. how have you been?

I think I'm just interested in Rammstein lyrics and the fact that they grew up in East Germany before the wall fell (it feels more genuine when they talk about Fascism than when someone like, say, SOAD does). They have really simple music :( Did you have a hard time finding Surfer Rosa? I bought it at an FYE like 4 years ago, they had several copies.

The interesting thing is how one interprets 'Scenic World', you know? I always thought that it was about trying to fall asleep, hence the scenic world Condon envisions before sleep; but recently, a friend brought it to my attention that the song may be OCD related, or at least the first three lines, "the lights go on/the lights go off/when things don't feel right." Whatever the case, it's an extraordinary song, and surely Beirut is the band to unwind to.

I applied for a produce position, but I don't think I will get hired. Fuck 'em, man. But yes, yes Nantes and Scenic World (Lon Gisland version) are my favorite Beirut tracks as well! I saw them live back in Philly but was somehow let down. I told everyone that it's hard for me to explain; but when I listen to Beirut, I conjure specific images in my head, like sitting in a Eastern European bar, full of gypsies and Romani whores, and completely sloshed, Condon and his cronies swooning on stage with trumpets, accordions, and gypsy guitars. It's weird but a concert in Philadelphia just doesn't live up to those conjurations.
