Some of their songs are good, some are like screamo background noise. I like that some of the newer emo bands are going back to worshipping in loving memory etc... things were getting a bit too Bedroom for a second when it came to emo (even for me)

I think their early emo stuff is still good, but hide here forever is definitely where you can hear the hints towards what dntel was eventually going for. You'll definitely hear it in the last half of A Sudden Interest In Nature. Recently I found out they put out some unreleased stuff like https://youtu.be/1-wuzxL6xUY?si=IZMyDR6ZCfq2hfcs that touches up on slow core and almost sounds like Seam a little bit.

I remember coming across Transistor at 3 am while procrastinating to do my homework in highschool and listening to it nonstop until 6 am. Later on I read an interview with the vocalist where he said the vocals were ironic. Who knows what that means, it could have been a cope of shame, but being the EMOTIONAL PURIST I was as a teenager it made it impossible for me to enjoy them. About a decade later I tried listening again and yeah, they became one of my favorites. Totally unique and weird as all good emo is and should be.

funnily enough i found them the same way last year, but it didnt click for me really at the time (not cuz of the vocals tho). the other day i rediscovered them thru the LP and gave their entire discography a relisten and christ are they phenomenal. speaking of them, i think the ironic vocals oddly make the songs more impactful and emotionally potent

also in relation to don martin, have you listened to wrought ironsmile yet? not similar at all, but it's another unique emo band that is on the lighter side that is one of a kind so I still throw them into the same category.

havent given Bob Tilton another try (yet), and Wrought: Ironsmile is on my list of things to listen to. one band ive recently gotten into tho is Okara, wish i had discovered them sooner because theyre exactly the kinda stuff ive been looking for recently, Long Distance is probably my favorite song that ive found as of lately. another band ive found recently is Back of Dave, their side of their split record is real good noisy emo

I've seen this before, but had no idea it was about a Panko maker LOL. To think the DIY spirit of emo has converted into the working ethic of a business man is the ultimate form of emo irony. Also, the narrator makes me want to put my head in a toilet. "Ouuuwaoooh! Lyrics are screen printed on the fabric!!"

Unless you have came back after 10 years to tell me that your band that is like how The Smiths would sound like with Courtney Love and Brody Dalle's child as lead singer, but with Morrissey and Kurt Cobain's writing skills then I don't want what you're selling.

Tbh I only gave them a listen because I met with some guys who wanted to write music like them, but some of them turned out to be kind of wack...so it never happened. RIP. My band virginity continues.

Envy's side of that Endeavor is dark as hell. They really went through some weird sound changes through out their career. Their first release is like unmemorable thrashy emo, then they had their dark emo phase, and then out of no where REVERB PEDALS. What's even more surprising to me is that good ass cover constatine sankathi cover envy did. It blows my mind that a tiny band in michigan got word in japan.

This is nuts, i've actually never heard this cover before. If there's anything I think Envy would see in CS it's that they have awesome chord progressions. Have you discovered any good 90s emo lately? I kind of ended up going down the Sugar road for my fix of emo chord progressions.

HIHA is weird too. That first demo is pure screamo with a touch of scenecore to it with the break downs and what not. It was probably from their converge influences, but it doesn't really sound like converge. Then the butterfly cutterboy album which is godlike. It was seriously amazing for 2007 right before every other emo band tried going post rock for whatever reason. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mHGQe3oGGU this was the last of the stuff I enjoyed by them. That key change at 3:42 was one of the few times music really had my jaw drop. It sounds so whimsical and deranged at the same time.

Yeah, they definitely go way too post rock, and then just get generic. I think the reason every band went post-rock was because it was easier to play. Kind of like how everyone got into 00s screamo for a second and then started playing twinkly emo. It's just easier to play long drawn out stuff or put a capo on ur guitar, play an open tuning. Def. makes it easier to play with a drummer who doesn't listen to the older stuff.

Speaking of post-rock. Have you ever listened to Daitro's Y or their first lp? That is probably the only band like that, that really just blows me away with their structure & melodies, it feels so natural. They recorded both records without using distortion pedals, it's kinda nuts.
