People who have actually tried to compose and mix music will definitely pick up different things than someone who is completely inexperienced in composing and 'making' music. I'm someone who appreciates the tonal qualities of the instruments while some of my musician friends appreciate complex compositions, some also appreciate nice layering in the mix. Without knowing how the process of guitar tone searching/songwriting/mixing/mastering works, I would've probably appreciate music only by how good it sounds to my ears and what mood it put me into.

For Western Classical I've listened to compositions made by well-known composers like Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Rachmaninoff, etc. // Rather than saying musicians, I'd rather go with music enthusiasts are more likely to appreciate music in more intricate ways.

Yeah please do. Just finished listening to Synergy, it's great! Along the course of the album I keep telling myself oh wow this track's probably my favorite one-- oh wait this one is, and so on haha. Higher Access and Turn On, Tune In... are the best parts of the album for me

Been checking out some relatively obscure Japanese electronic-based music lately and I must say that it's kind of hit and miss. I disagree with that in the sense of BTBAM and The Contortionist. I think really early BTBAM was unorganized and just flashy but on everything after Alaska, even the seemingly most out of place progressions and most bizarre song structures actually work perfectly and are really brilliant. Actually, one of my favorite things about Swans is how you never know what the fuck is coming next, but usually it works--similarly to BTBAM.

I see where you're coming from but for me, their breakdowns are necessary to the progressions of the songs instead of pretty much stopping the song to make a new part, like most Metalcore. Whatever. // Yes, I go on RYM every day. I'm too lazy to review stuff though.

I don't think of anything from The Contortionist besides their Exoplanet material as anything ~core. IMO Exoplanet is atmospheric Progressive Metal with Djenty guitar tones (it isn't a djent album, but the guitar tones are 'shuggahish.) Influenced by Death Metal and Metalcore, sure, but these influences aren't really strong at all. Will give Language another listen.
