Yeah that's one thing I can say about Spotify is that I can dig into deep cuts that I would have otherwise ignored.

He did indeed! That album really has a different feel than the rest of their catalog largely because of him.

After X amount of years of the same thing I felt some kind of original PFP was necessary, courtesy of Stub Whitlock

Did you look at your spotify "wrapped"? I had a pretty funny message from george clanton on mine. Seems to work best on mobile devices. My desktop spotify didn't offer anything but just the basic rundown. I'm going to *lose* my spotify password at work so that next years wrapped isnt bing fucking crosby.

Mine was little surprise, OGD (Road Song) by Jimmy Smith (Alt version). Played that song over and over. Luckily work didn't poison too much of my wrap. It helps that when I scrobble at work we play "my" playlist. But not that much since Spotify's algorithm is crap and plays the same tracks. I have a 23 hour playlist for work, do you think Spotify will find the tracks that don't get much play? I don't. It doesn't.

Ringo has always been my favourite too. But for other reasons. From watching the "Get Back" documentary you really get a sense that he was a galvanising force that helped keep the band together. There are always creative differences in a band and there often break ups. Either that or they just run out of ideas and become utter shite.

My favourite track by Van Halen is "Jump". Because that's the only track I know from them. Although I have heard that the guitarist was a not too shabby guitarist. Maybe you could help me out here liked you helped me out before with Willie Nelson. "Red Headed Stranger" is one of my Go Tos.

Not really. I thought that when I linked my Spotify account it would just start then and there. Instead it back scrobbled a TON of songs. A few hours worth at least.

Royal Trux playing an Ace of Cups event in late September, also Dan Deacon? Weird. I was just looking over their calendar. Is Ace of Cups the draw of indie/alternative acts in Columbus now? I like the size of the place but frankly their PA is garbage and their "stage" is a joke.

I don't know if I'm ready to go all SC>PW... It's a solid effort though. I like Footy a lot. Do you get the impression that Sleep Cycle cultivates a lot of style and feel from Strawberry Jam-Water Curses-MPP era specifically? I mean, the opening track (golden chords) is practically In The Flowers. I'm glad Sleep Cycle exists. I'm just not sure a half panda/half avey hybrid vocalist exists outside the realm of AC and surpasses what the collective is doing. In summary... Sleep Cycle might be the most "Animal Collective" album to come out in 6 years... which is sort of oxymoronic since, for better or worse, Animal Collective rarely sound like they used to.

A mild recommendation would be to check out the producer/musician SOPHIE. Remember that feel you got when you first heard bamboo banga on the toll road in New Jersey? It's the closest thing I can compare to that. If you're familiar with, and like Hudson Mohawke it wont be much of a stretch.

RE: the wipe-out sample... I fucking ultra cringed when I first heard that and was so glad it didn't actually make it to the "wipe-out" part. I have mostly dismissed that from the song and otherwise enjoy Floridada. Besides that, my favorite tracks are probably On Delay, Hocus Pocus and Spilling Guts.

I like a couple songs but overall I am somewhat disappointed. When I heard they were focusing on concise pop songs with less reverb and filler I was really excited. I didn't realize they were also going to strip all the weirdness out too. I know Animal Collective has reached a plateau when ODDSAC moves closer to canon after each release.

If you haven't already heard it, I'd harness your hopes... It's an Animal Collective album. It's just not the Animal Collective album I expected. Nary a single Avey Tare yelp or scream. Can you think of any of the past 5 albums where that was the case? It's a surprisingly minimal, beat-driven, low fuss affair.

Haha thanks. I think the name was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek. I only ask because your user name looks familiar to when I used to 'socialize" on the site around 2009 and you were friends with the groups leader: http://www.last.fm/group/Extremely+Exclusive+Elitists

ATCQ are going to be on Fallon tomorrow night coinciding with their re-release/remaster of People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. Honestly it's the album most in need of a remastering. The levels are way down and could use a good scrubbing. The other albums, if they receive the same treatment, may only be sought for the bonus tracks.

Sigur Rós is the band you pretend to like when you meet a pretty girl and you're trying to nail down some common ground in music. I don't think I would skip a song of theirs but I'd also never purposely play one either. "Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust" is the album I've heard the most and I wish it sounded like Electroplankton. I believe they are reissuing their albums right now so there's some Sigur chatter afoot.

It's funny. I went back to your page 1 and I don't believe we started last.fm arguing about "Indie"... I'm guessing there was an arbitrary cut-off of shout history. Full Disclosure: I find it hard to tag anything "Indie" anymore. "Alternative" is the new catch-all for that stuff (still ridiculous and abstract tho). No more Rap either... just Hip-Hop. I'm in the process of amending my drive.
