I have yeah. And indeed, new Cerebral Rot is filthy. Last one was my AOTY and this is a very worthy followup

nice maiden session you got going there. will always be the band i'll credit for being the band that got me into the whole music geek mess. i'm all aboard the cerebral rot hype train by now. super stoked for the repress of the record, finally can get my hands on that, same with fetid. also: cerebral rot's sopormore album apparently in mixing, quite excited for that one. new phrenlith's also on the way. could become a juicy 2021!

Yep, was jamming a bunch of Maiden in honor of Killers' 40th anniversary. And yeah this year is looking stacked - those two, Funebrarum, Deiquisitor, Grave Miasma, Imprecation, etc

a little maiden worship's always a good thing. there's also a sanguisugabogg record on the horizon, but i have my doubts that i'll actually like that record. anything good from 2021 yet that i might have missed? been largely catching up still, i've really found a liking in the 2020 necrot record and since their drummer also plays in mortuous, i checked that out too. took a few rounds but i'm starting to really hype the through wilderness record. also, i've started to enjoy undeath's 2020 record, there's quite a lot going on beyond from the "meme" tracks.

yeah i'm not into sanguisugabogg at all. i keep a list of death metal from the year i like on rym, here's this year's version https://rateyourmusic.com/list/profanation_/2021-metal-of-death//

as you might or might not have noticed i've been drifting off into death metal more and more. apart from pretty fast and agressive stuff like taphos, of feather and bone and obliteration, my favourites clearly ended up being disgusting, "low and slow" type of bands in the veins of phrenelith, spectral voice, krypts and mortiferum. anything you could recommend in that corner?

ah, something i've been thinking about. i like cerebral rots record quite a bit. it's good it's groovy, it does all the right things. still, i'm a little surprised you named it as your album of the year for 2019. as i said, i like the album, but i feel like mortiferum and blood incantation had better records that year. i also enjoyed cosmic putrefaction from that year and witch vomit also werent half bad, id say about on the same level as cerebral rot. now, im not saying that i find it strange, but if you can, could you explain what puts cerebral rot above mortiferum and blood incantation for you? i know a lot of people are knida low on blood incantation, i initally was too, but i started to get into starspawn and after a while i really started liking hidden history too. its pretty sick honestly. no such luck with tomb mold though.

well all three do pretty different things, so it's tough to compare 'em. and FWIW Mortiferum made my top 10 as well. But I was just addicted to Cerebral Rot, it's so simple but infectiously catchy. It's like throwing in the putridity of Undergang and the Finnish scene and playing it through an Autopsy filter. I love the punk-ish drums too. And I wasn't really into Starspawn at all but I did think Hidden History was a huge improvement and their best work to date

really that's odd. for me, starspawn is clearly the stronger album. don't get me wrong, hidden history is a really fun album especially the giza power plant and the long-ass last track with the long-ass stupid fucking title are really good, but starspawn... damn, starspawn is good. i am also quite fond of interdimensional extinction, too, by now. still not really clicking with tomb mold though. it's not bad but the vocals seems so missmatched with the instruments at times it drives me crazy.

Haha, I'll actually reply seriously - just take your time and don't rush through things. I see so many people speedrunning albums because they want to listen to everything. But you never will, and that's a good thing - imagine how boring it would be if you actually ran out of new stuff to check out. There's no point in listening to a bunch of stuff if you're not going to absorb any of it anwyay

oh, wise death metal wizard, honour me with your insights! so, after i listened to death metal for a while now it's clear that Taphos are far and away my favourite band in the genre. the filthy, fast insturmnetation with THICC as fuck riffs and transitions as well as the almost hardcore_ish agressive vocals are the perfect blend. phrenelith, spectral voice and hyperdontia follow behind, i also thought obliteration and mortiferum were top notch, cerebal rot and hooded menace are very slick too. a lot of other stuff was good but not as outstanding as those that i named. now i wondered, do you have anything for me in that corner that you'd go on with? especially if you've got something that has this punkish-death-metal-flair that Taphos carries, let me know.

ah yeah i see youre on the black curse hype train too. i got my misthyrming lp in the mail today and it was from the distro of a german underground label sepulchral voice they had a flyer in there for the black curse album (theyre on that label) and i checked it out because their logo looked rad and the music fucks. they also had a flyer for a band on there named concrete winds which i think you might like.

Yeah Black Curse is tied for my AOTY right now with Caustic Wound. Sepulchral Voice is a fantastic label - for my money they're the most consistently high quality label in the underground right now. I liked Concrete Winds a lot, though I still miss their last band (Vorum)

Haha I did recommend Atavisma the other day I think. Taphos rules yeah. There's a fair amount of stuff out there like that - Degial, Vorum, Repugnant, Verminous, Tehom. For Outer Heaven, you may also like Genocide Pact, Scorched, Kruelty...

so i sneaked around on your profile and i stole cerebal rot that shit is legit. ive been super in love with hooded menace and spectral voice recently, and i think abyssals 2015 record might be one if not the best death metal album i know. anyway whenever i creep around any death metal artists on lastfm youre one of, often even the only, person in my followed that listen to them so i guess you could help me out. mind recommend me something along the lines of spectral voice and hooded menace?

i guess ive checked out most of the more "popular" stuff like tomb mold and blood incantation and that stuff was mostly ok but nothing spectacular. i accidentally found the band Ossuarium because i was searching for that album by hooded menace with ossuarium in the name and the band is also super neat so far.

hell yeah, Cerebral Rot was my AOTY last year. So it sounds like you're more into death/doom then straight death metal. For stuff like SV/HM, try Mortiferum, Vastum, Anhedonist, Krypts, Swallowed, Disembowelment/Inverloch, Funeral Leech, Atavisma. Into Coffin, Indesinence, Symptom, Sempiternal Dusk, Antiversum, Sinistrous Diabolus...

mortiferum is a hit. i already knew krypts. i obviously wasnt able to listen to all your recommendations just yet. i also found cruicamentum who are quite neat as well as triumvir foul who are chaotic as fuck, same for ascended dead. i also felt like Chthe'ilist albumn with the french name was gonna stick, sounded quite cool. so whats definetly the case is that i've been stuck in my black > death mindset way too hard. while i generally still think that black > death metal there clearly is a shitton of amazingly swampy music out there that i missed because of that trailroad-mindset.

Hard to pin them down to just one band, they're super catchy crusty death metal. Like if Stormcrow, early Bolt Thrower and Grave had a threesome

its easily in my top 5 cartoons. and if i had a seperate list for more serious shit and more funny shit, archer would take spot 1 in the funny list. archer is legit amazing. has a bit of a lull phase in some of the more recent seasons, even though i think the latest one (space stuff) is arguably the best season of archer overall next to archer vice. shit's amazing.

Haven't got around to checking it out yet. I'm a big fan of the band, especially Perdition Insanabilis, but I was pretty skeptical about the new stuff. Glad to hear it's worth listening to.

I knew Sun Worship (Actually seen them live, too), Cult of Fire, Cobalt, Ash Borer, Fell Voices and Blut Aus Nord. The ones that didn't catch my further atention were Archerontas, Forteresse, Bestia Arcana and Torture Chain. I'm still in the progress of getting into Yellow Eyes, and haven't really tapped into Akhlys and Wormlust.

Iiiiinteresting, it's the exact other way round for me. Started out on Metal music when I was like 11, and found my way into rap at around 25. Well, here we are. I mean, last week (See last 7 days) I punched in a shitton of Black Metal cuz I felt like it, but generally my taste's been strongly moving towards Rap recently. Any recommendations you've digged recently?

I'm not sure I can really pick. They have so many amazing riffs that it's usually the one I've most recently listened to. Which in this case is Regnum Saturni.

It's also referred to as Untitled (II), but it wasn't when I started scrobbling it and I don't want it scattered under two titles in my scrobbles. Gilead and (I think) Howling Mine co-released it on vinyl. Also thanks
