I stumbled across Unessential Oils in June and find them so groovy! Really underrated. I think you'd also enjoy Aldous Harding, who has some similarities with Cate Le Bon and has collaborated a bunch with Perfume Genius. Her album Designer is full of catchy songs (the title track, The Barrell, and Weight of the Planets are all good songs to jump in with), with Warm Chris getting weirder and more experimental. You can also catch some background vocals from Perfume Genius on Party, a somber record. You might also like Elbow, for lush alt music which is not tooooo far from some Placebo and Radiohead songs. And, for a third rec and something completely different, try Horse Lords. Hope you're well in Portugal :)

Hey Max :) I feel so bad getting back to you so late. I was trying to listen to all your recommendations before getting in touch, but didn't find a moment to listen to Elbow or Horse Lords for some reason haha. I promise I'll listen to them soon. What I did listen almost right away, was Unnesential Oils. I heard the album two times, it was pretty nice. Reminded me a little bit of Mac DeMarco, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and stuff like that. As for Aldous Harding, I do listen to her. Designer is one of my favorite albums from the year it was released. I'm so glad I was able to see her live also in that tour. It was amazing! Her most recent collaboration with Perfume is one of my favorite songs of the year so far. And I'm doing fine, thank your checking. How are you? Where are you from? I just notice you're basically here on Last.fm since the begging. Oh man, I miss so many things from older days in this platform!

Hey Rubén, no worries and no rush! I'm glad you liked Unessential Oils and already love Aldous, my bad for not spotting her in your library already! She was incredible on that 2019 tour. I saw her in London and she performed an amazing set while barely talking to the audience, except to say "though I am not speaking, I am present". And she really was deeply present with us, and with the music, in an incredible intense way. I'm currently based in Geneva, though I had the chance to be in Lisbon for a conference recently - I had a wonderful time in your country! Had a great summer in general, too. Where in Portugal are you based? As for my last.fm history, I found the site in 2008, listened to a few songs that were big in NME at the time, and then forgot about it for nearly a decade, so it feels like unearned seniority! Unlike you, who have 13 years of consistent activity. I wonder, what's a fave song of yours from 2012, the year you first joined? Fica bem!

Are you still jamming to those artists? For instance, did you hear the new album by Arcade Fire? I never could have imagined their popularity dying out so fast, though that’s not at all a parameter by which to measure great music; it’s just fascinating to me. I did enjoy them quite a bit, but I was never as fully invested as a lot of indieheads were at the time. Uff, what can I even suggest? I'm so bad at this haha. Lotic, Nazar, KeiyaA, Jenny Hval, Einstürzende Neubauten, Lyra Pramuk... just random names off the top of my head haha.

Yeah, they're really not ideal for responses haha. Let's move to insta, if you wish. Is your insta @bac...? I always thought it was you, but I'm not sure. Let me know and I'll follow you from my personal page. Those are all great picks, Third is such a one of kind album; love it so much! Ooh, I really love the new Blood Orange, Fka twigs, Cate Le Bon, Lorde, Perfume Genius, SPELLLING and so much more. This year was really heavy on releases; almost claustrofobic, I would say. I had a list with almost 400 hundreds albums to hear, which is clearly almost impossible to truly absorb any music with this level of consumerism, so I trimmed it down to just 25-30% of it. And you? what are your favorites from this year? I'm thinking about doing a list at @artenotorso like I did last year, but I'm still thinking about the writing aspect, cause it really takes time to write about 50 albums, plus design, research...

Sorry for late reply, my dear. I heard the new album again after reading your message, and although it is a pleasant listen, there's nothing that gravitates me towards it. And I carry this sentiment all over her work. I cannot say precisely what I'm missing, but I definitely liked it more now. One day I will get it haha, sometimes it happens. I see that Metals is your favourite album, I will give it a go. Now that we're on it... did you heard a lot of new albums this year? What do you recommend me?

as for what i've been listening to, i've been sifting through all the great contemporary R&B genre, and then some rap, and an assortment of other genres. you would just have to let me know what vibe you're trying to be in and i can find something for you.

that's fascinating it doesn't resonate with you but at the same time incredibly understandable because i've had that happen to me before with artists or even their work. i'll listen to it a bunch but it won't stick for some reason...then i go back maybe a year or some change later it will be just what i need. it happened with the Keiyaa album for me. just didn't click, then went back and listened and wondered what was wrong with me that i didn't like it lol. i think Feist is for a certain mood. not something to listen to at your leisure, more something that demands your attention so you can pick up each intricacy.

It does! I listen to music in almost every opportunity I have to do it. And yearly I will say I listen to an average of 100-150 new albums releases without counting all the old stuff I discover (mainly from the 80's). it's just a lot to focus and process, so there's definitely a lot of stuff that I catch along the way

I think is the most I heard The Knife in her work, and It was a pretty good surprise. Just can't seem to connect yet with the last three songs, specially the last one - what is that? Reminds of the ambient pieces in Shaking the Habitual, which are the only factor I don't give a complete 10 to that album. And you? did you liked it?
Actions
-
camusunder
I absolutely loved it, even the last track. Then again I'm a huge fan of pretty much everything on Shaking the Habitual, so I was acclimatized to the ambient/drone tendencies of it. Feels hypnotic and psychedelic. My favorite tracks, however, were the more art pop or darkwave tracks. Obvious standouts were What They Call Us (probably my favorite on the album), Tapping Fingers and of course Carbon Dioxide.

Uh oh! Better late then never. That album is really something else. It melts like butter in my ears. I guess everyone who slightly likes Solange would get into it. That's kind of how I got into her, and ended up liking Forever Ya Girl more than any Solange project. She played for free 3 months ago in a city very near mine, but I was so dumb for not going. I already had tickets for Desire Marea at day 7, and Primavera Sound at 9, so KeiyaA date was at day 8, and I thougth it would be too much to "Party" like 5 days in a row. Anyways, hope to see her soon. What are your favorite songs in the album? And what are your thoughs about American Gurl? Also, did you liked the new Zola Jesus album? She just does not miss.

It's funny that you talk about being in a certain headspace to "get" a certain song or album, I feel this very frequently, that's why I hardly give up on any artist I disliked. I mean, if there's not a tangible factor for me to dislike, like annoying voice, whack lyrics or obnoxious instrumentals, I'll always come back from time to time, or at least keep up with the releases. For example, there is an Interpol album I disliked for years, and right now is probably my favorite of theirs. My eyes were fully wet while listening, this is insane!

How's the new Marissa Nadler? Don't know why I never gave her a proper listen. New Zola will fit well in this rotation. It's not her best, but it's pretty pleasant listen, kinda reminds me of Taiga in a couple spots, but I think this time she mixed well the Pop with her darwave style. I liked American Gurl, although I never feel like coming back to the whole album, there's a couple tracks which I find to be one of the best that came out this year.

Foo Fighters, Pablo Vittar no remix de Man's World da Marina? Caso queira indicação: o novo álbum do Tame Impala de 2020 tá magnific. Caso queria me indicar algo, estou super aberto a. :)

Some of the albums that really shaped my year are Desire by Desire Marea (absolutely brilliant), NEVAEH by Mhysa, Trust by Sixth June, The Fifth Season by Lafawndah, KeiyaA and HiRUDiN by Austra. I heard almost 200 albums released in 2020, a lot of them were pretty good, but those are my absolutely favorites. Can't wait for what 2021 has to offer
