(thank you so much for how eloquently you put your recommendations for nsb forth btw, i'm pretty hyped to delve into their discog this weekend :] i will try to make mine similar right now--) so given how you mentioned daughter of darkness being dense/noisy, from the desc alone i'd like to imagine A Promise is similar in quality! it's industrial/drone-heavy and if that's your thing (deconstructed electronic ambience) you'll really dig it, + the content is highly sensitive because jamie wrote it in a very dark place in their life. overall Yes you can start with A Promise to get a feel of their lyricism and sound, but my personal favorite would be FORGET; it's less noisy and more experimental in how it presents itself + has the most (ironically) unforgettable songs when considered individually. most newcomers tend to start with dear god i hate myself or OH NO owing to them being slightly less ambitious and indie rock/synthpop heavy, so you could ease yourself into them with those too!

thank you for the detailed explanation! i've been planning to listen to their discog for a while now, so i'll probably start with a promise & 13" frank beltrame italian stiletto with bison horn grips :D i know they have a new album coming out soon which i'll also definitely give a listen :)

Oh wow, I would never have thought about that in a million years!! My username on Spotify is a reference to Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, who was my favourite theorist back at the time when I signed up. So I’m afraid I’m not Bengali at all but a Croatian scholar living in Germany :) But we can be friends anyway!! I just followed you and your awesome library :)

might be the case with some of them! maybe I wouldn't necessarily recommend Deathspell Omega as an entry point into metal music. Shining (album 5), early Katatonia (1996-2009) or the classic Burzum albums on the other hand should be more accessible! Have you dared to tip a toe into these muddy waters yet? :D
