Thoughts on the new Soilwork? It's very catchy and easy to like. Yet to me it seems a bit superficial.. doesn't last so long.

Hey Greg, how are ya? Glad to see some appreciation for No Prayer for the Dying here, never really understood why that album gets so much hate. I've always enjoyed it.

By now I can say The Ride Majestic has convincingly made it to be my album of the year 2015, might just be my favourite Soilwork record, I never thought that would happen after The Living Infinite.

The Ride Majestic is growing on me, it's really great! Particularly Strid's vocals are utterly ace. Those chorusses are all just awesome!

The Living Infinite surely has several intense songs as well. Anyway, I only just recently discovered the Beyond the Infinite EP, I didn't even know it existed :D It's a very nice EP indeed, shame it was only released in Japan. I did get my hands on a copy though, via a guy on Discogs. I also got the Naglfar "Harvest" japan release from him, it features an awesome Japan-only bonustrack called "Necrospiritus", absolutely killer track, among the best tracks on the album! I only just started listening to Ahab, first impression was really good, I'll definitely listen more. Yesterday I listened to the Cruciamentum full-length, sounded crushing! I didn't like the new Sulphur Aeon that much, not near as awesome as the debut. New My Dying Bride sounded promising. New Slayer was disappointing..

Hey Greg! Yes, The Ride Majestic is very strong indeed, it seems to be more in the vein of the Panic Broadcast..? So I can imagine you like it, as do I! It's very intense, glad to hear that. It made me revisit their older catalogue as well, been on a Soilwork binge these past weeks :D

Hey Greg! It seems to me The Living Infinite is all a Soilwork fan could want :) It should grow on you I guess. I think it's quite a feat they managed to put out a double album without a single weak song on it. This Momentary Bliss, it has it all i.m.o. virtuoso guitar work, a great chorus, an absolute top notch Soilwork track. Do you have a Spotify account? Likblek is on Spotify.

How about Soilwork? I think it's awesome, their best work! Heard Likblek already?

Made one mighy fine new discovery tonight Greg, [artist]Sulphur Aeon[/artist] from Germany. Melodic yet crushingly heavy Death Metal. Think of a crossbreed between Bolt Thrower, Hypocrisy, Dissection and Incantation. Their debut '[album artist=Sulphur Aeon]Swallowed by the Ocean's Tide[/album]' was released in January. It's on Spotify, check it out, highly recommended!

Thaumiel is totally awesome, seriously. Start to finish, all killer, no filler. Listened to Soilwork twice now. I like it. The music's become more guitar-oriented, much more tasteful guitarplaying instead of this pure rhythmic chugga chugga stuff.. It just seems like more attention was put into writing the songs and keeping them interesting and it worked i.m.o. They're back at what they're good at and what I always liked about them. Also heard Tribulation twice now, it's a lot to get one's teeth into. I like what I hear, but it's not really stuck in my head yet.

Oh and if you like some stripped down, straight forward, yet effective and grim Black Metal, check out [artist]Likblek[/artist]'s self-titled debut. Features ex-members of Swordmaster, Sacramentum and Sacrilege (the Swedish one obviously).

I listened to The Panic Broadcast once so it appears. Apparently it didn't really stick :) I'll give it another try. What I've heard of the new Tribulation did sound promising. I also must recommend you to check out the new [artist]Ofermod[/artist] album "Thaumiel", one of the best Black Metal albums of 2012. It's way better than Tiamtü if you ask me. Also Michayah's other band [artist]Nefandus[/artist] is really good, particularly their latest full-length "Death Holy Death" and their new MCD "Your God Is a Ghost." Last but not least, check out [artist]Endezzma[/artist]'s debut full-length "Erotik Nekrosis", very good album.

Hey Greg! I've heard Soilwork once now. I wasn't a big fan of anything after Figure Number Five, so they've kinda been off my radar for some time, but the new album sounded good on first listen. Will surely give it more time. As for Tribulation, where The Horror was a short aggressive little fucker, the new one is a whopping 75 minutes long! Several 7-minute songs and even a 10-minute and a 13+ minute song :O Quite the change there. Stylewise not that radically different, more in depth and more sophisticated as one might expect from the duration. Only heard part of it today, will need much more listening in the coming days. CD is pre-ordered anyway.

Hey Greg, I listened to it 5 times now I think. I still feel it hasn't fully sunk in yet. It's definitely in the vein of Night is the New Day, a bit more atmopspheric, some more use of keyboards/electronics. It still has to grow on me I think. New Testament and Tenacious D are awesome anyway!

Was at Ivory Blacks (aka Strawberry Fields) tonight seeing Kylesa, and something popped into my head: Those Bastards Stole My Laundry...what's the status of that one?

It's a date. Last year was alright. Went with two good mates so we ended up having a good time regardless of some of the questionable bands. Holy Moses were a particular highlight in the "I've never wanted to go deaf as much as this moment" stakes. Really looking forward to seeing At The Gates again, and Therion as well. Don't remember much of their show when I saw them at Wacken, so I'll have to watch how many (small) cokes I drink beforehand.

Guess they've just archived the songwriter's name in the wrong place or some such? I've completely switched to Spotify in the last year as my way to listen to music, but there's only the one Necronoclast masterpiece, and it's horribly mis-tagged :( Everything going well down in the badlands then? You and Helen going to be at Bloodstock this year? Would be cool to actually have a sit down and beverage this time, perhaps during one of the "lesser liked" bands, if I might be so bold.
