The 1st of May is a public holiday in Germany and has a long tradition behind it. Even today, many events on that day are politically motivated. History of holiday: The 1st of May was originally a day of struggle of the international working class movement, which was first held in 1890. The result was the idea in the United States, where May 1 is traditionally regarded as "moving day", because on this day expired contracts and have been re-signed. The American trade unions chose this important for the working date, to express in large-scale demonstrations of their demand for an 8-hour day. The call for mass demonstrations followed by numerous workers and organizations around the globe.

May Day is known as Labour Day, Day of the workers' movement or as May Day. He is a public holiday in Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria, Belgium, parts of Switzerland and many other countries.
