Checked my last.fm and noticed you were listening to An Infinite Regression! I've been listening to Weightless and The Joy of Motion in my car a lot lately. The Joy of Motion especially is.. so perfect. AAL keeps getting better. I love it when bands phenomenally progress like that.

You'll like Z2 but give it time. It sounded kinda flat and predictable to me the first couple of listens and then of course I woke up one morning singing one of the choruses and couldn't get it out of my head, song after song, rinse repeat. The pop hooks on the Sky Blue record are ridiculous, probably as good as any pop chorus he's written. The weird stuff on Dark Matters reminds me of the best bits of Deconstruction. Surely you've seen this already.

Ki is a bit harder to get into but there are some gems for me, probably Heaven Send and Disruptr being my two faves. I saw Devin play a show in 2010 that included a little acoustic set and Q&A before the show and one of the songs was Coast, which I appreciated a lot more on acoustic. I dunno, even when he does something weird like The Hummer or Casualties I tend to like it.

That's so cool you include Alien and City in there. I think back in the day Strapping and Dev fans were sort of two separate entities, and it's nice to hear that Dev fans now appreciate the Strapping stuff as part the 'oeuvre'. I've just started going through his back catalogue again recently because while I loved Ki, Addicted and Deconstruction, he kinda lost me with Epicloud. Z2 brought me back. I think I mentioned previously that his solo stuff after Physicist sounded like Strapping-lite to me so I had a hard time listening to it, and I'm just now getting into it. Ocean Machine... ok so I found that in a bargain rack that said "free". Meaning, at the time he couldn't even give that CD away! It didn't say Devin Townsend, it said "Ocean Machine" as the artist. When I opened it and saw that it was a Devin record I was blown away. So long story short, to hear him open last night's show with "Regulator" was pretty fucking awesome. Viva le Dev :-)

So, Monuments. The fact that the singer played his sax throughout your show makes my opinion of them jump tenfold. At my show we had a hundred bro bras between the age of 16 and 20 jumping up and down responding to "put your hands in the air" etc. Reminded me of Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park, and I was trying to figure out how I could throw my slice of pizza at him without getting thrown out. I'm serious. Yes they play their instruments well. But, ah .. yeah. Monuments sans vocals sounds half decent!

Haha awesome thanks for sharing <3 Yeah he did play Kingdom and Bad Devil (with a full mosh pit which was super weird to me but all good). Dev kinda seems like he's in the same headspace as his last tour with Strapping, where he was saying super funny shit onstage and kinda disconnected to the songs, but it's STILL 100% amazing from the audience. If his next record is polka music, I'm down!! I'm in!! I'm down with Devin polka, bring it :-)

Catch Dev on his recent tour? Just saw him play tonight. His stream of consciousness suggests that he's burnt! Forgetting lyrics to the Z2 songs and still getting total love from all his obsessive rabid fans. (including me). Dude could fart in the microphone and make funny faces and I think we would still go home happy. He played War, Grace, Regulator and a lot of Z2. Do you have a favourite Dev album? If I had to take just one to the desert island it's City for me.

Shawn, if some point you look at this, I have ZERO way to even reply to you other than hope you even see this. Because apparently can't post a shout or send a message to you. I listened to the whole album you posted a few days ago while working on packing. (moving..) The specific song you posted is great, I liked it. Whole album seemed good. I will have to look into that band more, nice find!

Yeah get back to the gym! And blast the Strapping Young Lad. ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ I always expect to outgrow the Devin sooner or later but he keeps coming out with another interesting left turn and if I like it, I inevitably get sucked right back into his back catalogue. There's older albums I appreciate a lot more now because it no longer sounds like SYL-lite to me, it just sounds like Devin. So the song of his that has been a "go the fuck to sleep" song for me is Spirituality from the City record :) Seeing him live in 3 weeks, super pumped.

Yeah I saw it already. Of course there aren't any dates around here. I may just have to go on a road trip to one of those dates because.. Devin Townsend.. Animals as Leaders..!! Z² will be out by the time they tour.

Thanks! Yeah I have noticed you have an incredible amount of Om going on, hahah. Sounds like it won't be long before Devin Townsend actually surpasses Dream Theater for you. As for me (and you too I bet), the combined plays of Devy's various projects already surpasses Dream Theater, which is no surprise since he's pretty much become my favorite artist. For a while I listened to almost nothing but Strapping Young Lad, lol.

Love his stuff too! One of my all time favorite artists. I saw him live last year, best show I have ever been too. Can't wait to see him again.

It's good to know that a member of Tetrafusion has excellent taste in art. Also games, it seems. Yeah I've only been listening to the band for a few days but I LOVE it. It has been a really long time since I've discovered such a good progressive metal band like that. I've been listening to it at work and while I'm here playing TF2. I've been listening to Sithu Aye a lot as well - even burned it to a disc for my car. But anyway, what's weird is earlier today I was contemplating telling you about Tetrafusion and Sithu Aye.

I wasn't going to tell you, but the only reason I discovered Xerath was because I saw that song in your recent plays and thought that was a cool band name, so I checked it out and it turned out to be incredible. So /technically/ YOU got ME into Xerath XD
