Aha! Hello stranger, ;) yes, indeed they are an excellent band, I haven't been listening to them as much as I used to though. I think I might dig out an album, this is my favourite of theirs - [album artist=the birthday massacre]pins and needles[/album]. You've got an awful lots of shouts from myself here! Anyway, how's life treating you? I hope you're well.

Indeed, it's always the way to go. Have you ever met anyone who is so endlessly optimistic it's annoying? Like even if their entire family was gunned down, their house crumbled to dust and their arms fell off, all in one day, they'd be like "Oh well, it's not THAT bad!" I knew someone like that once, (he was from Finland actually). I'd be in total despair over something that actually warrants despair, not a girly issue like breaking a nail or something, and he seemed to have no concept of unhappiness, or maybe it was lack of empathy (worryingly O.o). Anyway, pragmatism every time, at least that way we're not surprised when all the shit falls down around our ears! >.<

Adrenaline is a very potent hormone, we only produce about a teaspoon full in our whole lives. (Though I'm pretty sure I've made more than that already!) It puts us into 'survival mode', so yes if the circumstances call for it, we can certainly do things we wouldn't usually be able to. But if you mean that things like 'brain-washing' or the 'Stanford prison experiment', can show the darker sides of human nature then yes, perhaps we are all capable of doing things that we would like to think we aren't.

I would question how evolved we actually are when we need rules to keep society on the straight and narrow. Social expectations don't seem to be enough to regulate the social behaviour (of some) in order for us all to live together successfully. Perhaps it's a matter of psychology, people like to push the boundaries, or just simply don't care!

Yes I agree with you. When you put it like that though, it's so depressing isn't it? Society is just a nexus of norm followers managing to live together because of the fear of consequences rather than because we care about what happens to each other. (Which admittedly, not everyone does.)

Well yes I suppose as an extreme, but possibly, especially with the case of communism, isn't this just *enforced* conformity of those that aren't necessarily born conformists? Sometimes though, you have to conform to get by, otherwise the so called system gets in your way... Babylon mon!

I'm guessing every other month of the year. Except June which they have to share with lesbians.
