Yeah, I totally remember Beta Band, I was definitely into them in the pre-scrobbling era, then they broke up and I've not listened much to them since. Funny how it's like nothing exists before you start scrobbling. "Yeah, I've only listened to The Cure's disintegration 50 times since I've owned the album for the past 25 years" <smirk>. Likewise, it was really nice talking a couple of nights ago, let's not suck and do it more often. Good for the soul. Managed to get the four meeting abstracts submitted, so feeling smuggly proud of myself. Currently sitting at a starbucks trying to motivate myself to finish grading that thesis. Only 25 more pages to go, so doable this evening. Must be mid-morning for you, labour day, I'm hoping? I am quite looking forward to my day off tomorrow, was the bugs off the car from trip to Calgary, laundry, clean around the apartment a little, all while music blares. it's going to be a great day...

Riot Fests were also in September last year (couldn't go, conference in Europe) and the lineup was equally impressive last year too. And the ticket prices aren't that outrageous either. They start phasing them in and prices get more expensive as the dates grow near but I bought mine a few weeks ago and they were only $160 or so for both Toronto and Chicago. Was only intending to go to Chicago but then my friend Jo said she'd go to Toronto with me and then the YOLO principle took over! Let's do this thing! Riot Fest 2015 here we come!

But seriously, check the Riot Fest link on my page...so wish you could come!! it's going to be quite amazing. Really wanted to go last year but was away in Europe so couldn't make it. So yeah, let's not go to Pitchfork next year, we should do Riot Fest instead!

I saw the thing about the new policy, but I don't often use the radio because at the lab we have the world's shittiest/slowest network (I think there is better connectivity in rural Bangladesh) and we pretty much can't do any streaming. At home I sometimes listen to my recommended radio but that's about it. I was reading about the new policies but not totally understanding the new landscape...hmmm

Hey Cath, Sorry I missed you this weekend. Was on my way back from road trip to Vancouver! Please remind me that there are less harrowing ways to kill myself and/or shit my pants in fear. Weather on the way there was fabulous for driving, on the way back not so much. It made for gorgeous vistas but it was also vaguely terrifying. I had these plans to go off on another road trip to catch a band I quite love (Future Islands) this weekend, as they are coming tentalizingly close to here (playing three shows within about 8 hours of here). Still trying to decide if I have it in me to go for it, as driving in the winter is always a little bit of toss of the dice. Still, all good practice for when you come to visit North America! I read your account of the meeting with the psychic person in honey in the sun, kind of creepy but fascinating. Not sure what to make of it. We must definitely catch up soon, hugs, E

hehe...so funny you heard RAA and the "deathbridge in lethbridge". it truly is a pretty nice bridge. do a google search and you will agree. i would not say it is much of a death bridge, though. one cool thing about that RAA album is that each song includes some city in alberta as part of the narrative. "frank, ab" is about this town that was wiped out by this massive rock slide that you can still see to this day (!!!).

hiya my dear, this winter just will not go away and it's starting to make me angry. i am hence refusing to use capital letters to voice my displeasure. it was sooooo cold last week that i won't scare you with the details. i thought i was going to get a reprieve because i spent last week in ottawa but the whole bloody country is in the same deep freeze!!! things have been so crazy with work and i thought that after the madness of the one project proposal things would quiet down a little but that has not really happened. next week i have to go to vancouver for work, only nowadays we require 3 months notice for travel plans so that some higher-up bureaucrat can approve it. this trip came up too suddenly and so i don't have approval to go but i'm going to be a rebel and go anyway. only i refuse to pay 700 dollars out of pocket to attend so impromptu road trip! 11 hour drive here we come...ouch...it's training for when you come to north america and we go on an epic road trip!

Well, look who has insomnia!! :) Ok, let's totally plan making it to Pitchfork 2015. It's really pretty awesome and so incredible in terms of price. And yeah, a lot of our faves have played there over the years. I think a roadtrip from Leth to Chicago would be insanely cool so let's make it happen! It's usually in July, so it's as hot as the surface of the sun but very much worth it. I can't remember if Adelaide is as hot as in other parts in Aussieland? good god...I have to wake up for work in 3 hours...this will not be pretty...g'night :)

You asked about Coachella and Sasquatch, neither of which I've been to (yet!). Can't go wrong with either. Coachella has gotten Uber big and corporate but it is always packed with huge reunions and great bands of the moment. I'd checked on tickets for this year but they sold out so fast. Sasquatch seems way cooler to me, slighly smaller bands and always great headliners. Plus its held at this park (The Gorge) that I've heard is absolutely stunning. I've never had any takers, and I haven't wanted to go alone, one of those festivals where you camp. Ben was at The Gorge for a concert last fall and he totally wants to do Sasquatch. Anyway, Carissa can't really go wrong with either. Coachella is always in April and they now do two weekends in a row. Sasquatch is typically in late May. I already got my tix for Pitchfork in Chitown...$110 for early bird, for the three days. Best deal in town!!! Don't know who's playing and don't care. I bought two tickets just in case, wanna come ? :)

Dear Miss Cath, So far this year I have survived the polar vortex and the stupid proposal. I need a third item 'cause they always come in threes, no? The day the proposal was due I sent out a draft to collaborators at 7 AM and told them I'd get a couple of hours of sleep and get back at it 'cause my brain was shot. An hour after I got a phone call that our big boss needed to see the finished proposals RIGHT AWAY! I've never gone from 0 to 60 so fast! Anyway, all done and none the worse for wear. Now I just have to wait on the results. Cross your fingers for me?

hey Cat, damn...where does time go???!?!? did a complete veg-out at xmas (had to rewatch all of breaking bad, then finally got around to homeland and house of cards...ironic how good TV has gotten, while simultaneously replete of crap reality TV). Anyway, paying for my sins. I have a major proposal due in exactly 79 hours. Shouldn't have come to this but I suck at working ahead and gifted (truly and supremely) at procrastinating. So jealous that you get to see The National so soon, it's been two long years for me...sigh. I hope life is well, I cannot wait until Monday at midnight...peace, love, and understanding :)

Hey C, how goes life after school? I'm finally free of a whole bunch of work crap that had been weighing me down. I'm so free and clear that I'm doing a crazy trip flying from Montana to Las Vegas, renting a car, then driving down to San Diego and LA to see these crazy swedish punks called Holograms. All in about 48 hours. Totally irrational and totally awesome! Plus, California has such legit latin food that it's gonna be a good little road trip. Let me know how things are going, xoxo E

I have very strong feels about the Parklife album, so had I been planning on going to BDO, I would have been very upset. I didn't realise Leonard Cohen was touring again. Mum went to see him in McLaren Vale a few years ago and said it was fantastic. I haven't seen him - it might be a good thing to do. He's an amazing man. Stay cool.

Yeah - Great Lake Swimmers are fantastic. I only just got them today after looking at your profile this morning (before you shouted at me). I've not given Band of Horses very much time. I probably should. It will be a while before my kids want me to steer clear, I think. They're 5 and 3, so I give them 10-13 years or so.

Not convinced $95 is reasonable, but "HERE JUST TAKE MY MONEY!" is pretty much my reaction to The National touring. I figure I'm not going to Blur Day Out, so am somehow "saving" money.

hey miss thing, I see you're on going through a bit of a obsession thing with The National. Very nice. I'm on a more of a rockin' vibe right now. Crystal Antlers, whom I've not particularly cared for previously just put out an album that is kicking my ass. Too bad I just don't care for their earlier stuff because they were playing in portland/seattle/vancouver over the next couple of days and this is a long weekend, briefly considered a road trip, then I became rational again. No worries on the ignoring thing, your birthday is so close to hitler's after all. Wait...so is MINE!!!! But seriously, I know you're super busy so don't ya worry. Things have been hectic over here as well. Just got back from three and a half weeks in europe (two conferences and personal time in between). had a run in with the law in scotland (!?!?) and got my wallet stolen in barcelona. that sucked. but I did a visit a few distilleries, which was nice. Let's definitely have a chat soon! school over soon?

Cool. I see you like the new Trouble album. I was afraid that there's no more room for them to outdo themselves but they just keep surprising me. I don't know Kerri but Carissa is wierd.

HI Catherine. Just had a random listen to your library and added plenty of stuff to mine. I was checking out your "About Me" and we seem to have a lot in common. Like you I like French kissing, Aboriginal manicures and musical sex, but not criminal sex. Sorry if this sounds wrong, I'm a bit dyslexic. Hope all is well with you and your nails. trough x

Hi! I think with 'studying Pysch' you mean Psych? But I study Plant science actually :P I had an experiment from 1 month where I looked at the effect of eggs laid by butterflies on plant responses on feeding caterpillars. The height and flowering of plants and the weight of caterpillars was measured. Only the caterpillar weight was significantly different. The heigth and flowering of plants can be significantly different if a bigger number of plants are used I think. Thanks for asking. Nice work with the essay. I guess you're glad that you finished that :)

There are two good ones that I know of from the album - Two Against One (Feat. Jack White) and Black (Feat. Norah Jones). Those are the first two singles from the album, and I believe that they are both very good songs.
