"Your compatibility is High. You both listen to DIR EN GREY, the GazettE and ILLIT." Taste!! Do you have any musicians you can vouch for from the last few years or so?

Damn, I finally got up to over 3000 artists! It's getting harder to listen to new artists as I've explored a decent chunk of the VK scene and surprise, that's still primarily what I listen to after all these years but I'll definitely shoot for 3 500 in the future

Thanks! I'd say the same for you. I can recommend a bit if you'd like, just name a genre/type of VK that you're looking for more of

Yes, I do love playing rhythm and music games. I play quite a bit of Audiosurf and Beat Hazard mainly.

Yep. Love that song. The original is good but I prefer the Merzboris cover, the geetahs, vocals and noizu are awesome.

I've been listening to some darker stuff than usual these days. My homie Shane just got me into G-Schmitt, they're a fine Goth group. Check out his profile (he's a few shouts below) for a discog download <3 And I was already into them but I've been listening more ムニムニ (munimuni) than usual these days, I really like how atmospheric and dark their stuff is. People say Kannou's voice is annoying but I disagree, I like his voice because it fits the miserable tone of their gothic post-punk depression jams to a T. And I have been sleeping on Gibkiy Gibkiy Gibkiy, they're so good. Aie of Deadman is leading them so they're like deadman but shoegazer-ier (I don't remember if you've checked out Deadman before but if you haven't then tbh you should check them out before GGG imo). Kazuma (the vocalist) gets on my nerves with his histrionic vibrato but Aie steals the show.

Ty so much for that comment of apreciattion! Lately I've been rotating from old operas, old vk like malice mizer, lareine, lacroix despheres to sometimes of nagoya kei (deadman, the god and death stars) mako-aie works. Btw have you heard of Cyanotype? Shuuji Ishii was in charge of the guitars and programming and that's one of the reasons why they sound like the early early days of goatbed haha if not here is a little recomendation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72EtOl4iryY I was totally in love with their synth-shoegaze sound back in the days

You're welcome! I listen to Cyanotype on and off again, I do like their stuff. I didn't know that Shuuji was involved, that makes a lot of sense though! Also, I just marked the Merbow concert as interested, I live too far away to go :P But if I could, I would see him live, for sure.

I finally seem to be getting into Japanese rock, I guess I thought I'd branch out a bit seeing it's a new year and all. Listened to a bunch of bands yesterday, the GazettE & L'Arc~en~Ciel seem to be the consistently good ones, and DIR EN GREY is something artier. I need more time to explore the metal influenced ones, metal is always a massive world, but I've been known to like metal with an alternative flavor, for western artists Converge, Mastodon, and Deftones, and I suppose DIR EN GREY fits into the category as well/ I hope your new year is going well so far, get back to me when you can!

Happy new year! And I will keep your return a secret. Trust me, even if this site changes its UI to look like 4chan I'll still be here addicted to the statistics and the occasional shout/shitpost. Anyway, I'm glad to see you enjoying Jrock! Gazerock and Larku will never let you down, that's for sure. And yeah, Diru is a grower band, you just need to give them some time to ferment and then you'll really start liking them (it took me years of being a VK fan before I warmed up. Years!). Also, you should check out Kyo's project Sukekiyo, they're even artsy-er imo and I think you'll quite like them.

I'm surprised you have so little D'espairsRay and DEATHGAZE plays there 2 if my all time favorites.Btw hizumi D'espairsRay singer is back to making music after year's of being retired and ai deathgaze's singer is in a band named derrell they do kind of trash metal music.

It's one of my favourite MM songs and one of my favourite songs ever. Plus I think it's one of the best songs ever made, if not at least MM's best song. I imported the single and album it's on from Japan in order to forever have it enshrined in my collection. That's how much I love Au Revoir!

Me too. I mean, I still like what they're doing now but the VK days were something else. I hate how the band is like "We're not VK anymore because the whole scene sucks" like if the scene sucks then you guys should be leaders and own up to the scene, or maybe think about how there's still a bunch of great bands in the scene, most of them older and even more experienced than Diru, who are still fine with being called VK. I just wish they'd admit that they're too tired to put on the fancy clothes and makeup anymore lol.

Yeah, looking at Sukekiyo stuff it's obvious that they're trying for those old-school theatrics again. Also... Bruh. Like... Bruh. There's a lot of great old VK bands still going on, I've got a few in my top charts. Buck-Tick, cali≠gari, Plastic Tree,メトロノーム, LUNA SEA ... They all predate Diru btw.

I always hated this overblown popularity contest and have been ignoring them for years but the Grammys are even worse than I thought. They don't just blacklist good artists, they're also racist and defend sex offenders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2A-qzcHtaI&ab_channel=Volksgeist

Turns out people have been complaining about chart clogging since like... When Last.fm was good. I personally don't mind having one thing dominate the charts for weeks, even months so long as it got there legitimately. Some things will be popular whether you like it or not. And after all, much like the dynamics of Yin and Yang, the alternative wouldn't be the alternative if it didn't have a mainstream counterpart. https://blog.last.fm/2008/02/26/how-rainbows-ruined-the-charts
