[cont.] As for you being an INTP, you might as well not be one, but if you are, I guess you can feel "glad" (then again, my previous argument about me not feeling anything special applies), because it's a particularly awsome type: it's the one with the greatest minds, followed by ENTP, INFJ and INTJ. If INTP suits you, then it's all good. You're still a unique person even compared to other people of the same type. The only thing you vaguely share with each of them is the same grouping of functions. The way you use them is exclusively your own. Honestly, though, I'd not be surprised if you turned out to be an INFJ, because superficially, INTPs and INFJs seem to have many things in common (for example, both tend to be shy and reluctant to simply show their emotions to everybody). It's their more particular traits which point out the differences... Whoa, 4 posts. I think I've exaggerated a little. :/

[cont.] I tend to have some sort of sense of compassion towards people and will generally try to accommodate their needs or, at the very least, avoid being a nuisance to them. That can be explained by secondary Fe. As for Ti, I think I will omit that description, because I'm being fairly lazy. :P But, if I've mistaken myself for an xNTP in the past, I can assure you I have a well-developed tertiary. I should perhaps feel special knowing I am an INFJ, but since I've actually always been one, it's nothing special. The thing it makes me feel better about is my being "feely" for someone so rational and logical. The difference with xNTPs is particularly noticeable in that regard, so knowing I'm an NF makes me feel comfortable about myself. [cont.]

[cont.] I tend to gather precious information about things before I take any action and even when most people would think they have enough, I can be hesitant and often not satisfied enough with what I've found. When I am working on something, I need everything to be present and in the right place, in order to consider it finished. This could explain the dominant Ni. However, there are extremely rare occasions in which I just do things out of sheer impulse, nearly always regretting it later. :/ This could explain the inferior Se, which only becomes evident in stress situations. Also, I LOVE discussing and I hardly ever run out of things to say, but I seem to despise flat-out arguments heavily, as in, I tend to take it on a personal level and often develop negative feelings (which last quite a long time) towards the other person. Hi and sorry again for the late reply. In these 3 months, I actually improved my knowledge about MBTI and Jungian functions (sounds like I don't have a social life, but I was also having fun!). It turns out that, after consulting a friend who knows me really well and taking some serious time to make some research regarding the difference between Ne and Ni (ENxP and INxP's dominant functions respectively), the type that makes the most sense is actually INFJ. The reasons being simple: while I sure am a person who is fairly lost and inconsistent with certain things, I am also particularly stubborn within most areas of my life (relationships, habits, hobbies, interests, discussions, etc.). Yeah I was wondering about that too, well it's good that you're all moved into your new house! Unpacking is never fun. I just graduated and everything but sometimes things are no fun at all because I was getting panic attacks a LOT and sometimes still....it's intense and scary but hey I'm doing what I can to get through it, things are almost back to normal, I'm just trying to focus on the positives :/

[cont.] I generally notice all sorts of inconsistencies, but I'm not that quick to point them out. I know not all people like being corrected or criticized openly, so I go easy on them. Anyway, I've talked enough about myself. The reason why I believe Chuck was INFJ is his lyrics (especially in later years) and some of his interviews, not to mention his attitude. He loved his fans and didn't pursue his project of a power metal album ([url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBTRkhcVNwc]example[/url] under the "Death" name to avoid disappointing the fans by ruining the band's legacy. He is quite a shy guy, but he has huge willpower and he criticizes some aspects of society and the human behaviour through his lyrics. So yeah, he has this strong INFJ "paladin" vibe. That's why I admire him so much, I adore INFJs and their strong-willed idealism. But if you want a negative example of INFJ: just so you know, Hitler was one as well...

Once again, I apologize for the extremely delayed reply. I am quite busy with exams nowadays, so I haven't really been browsing this site and the 2-3 times I was it was just for a quick look. Anyway, speaking of MBTI, I've settled towards towards ENTP. Some of my friends (those who are quite informed about MBTI) said it makes the most sense and after some further testing, my results were clearer. ENTPs generally have these main functions: Ne-Ti-Fe-Si, INTPs have: Ti-Ne-Si-Fe. ENTPs are more playful and sociable than INTPs, but they also have a problem "settling down" due to dom. Ne. I'm actually a shy guy for people who know me IRL, but when I open up I actually stop being quiet and instead I become quite talkative (sometimes in an annoying manner). What your friend does is actually more of an INTP thing, since they will generally point out inconsistencies even if that means they'll annoy somebody (of course I'm generalizing), that's what low amounts of Fe cause. Chuck Schuldiner of Death, that is. I'm unsure you're into death metal, but that's a great band that got me into the genre.

[cont.] One INTJ friend of mine almost (verbally) killed me when I told her I think Necrophagist, Brain Drill and all that sort of music is shit. I mean, come on, it's just various pre-composed exotic scales played at full speed with no good riffs to back it all up, no substance at all and a dull atmosphere. I told her Death is far superior to these bands because they're original, the lyrics actually have some sort of "depth" and the riffs and melodies are absolutely tasteful. I linked her a Death song and she told me she found it to be fairly dull and standard. I just don't get people who think music has to be inhumanly complex and exotic by nature in order to be good... The music Tool make isn't hard to play, seeing as I could play "The Patient" and "Lateralus" after a month playing guitar, but the atmosphere they create is still quite profound, 'puzzling' and mindblowing. On a side note I'm 90% sure Chuck - he's INFJ - knew about MBTI judging from what he wrote in his later years.

That's true. But it's also true that while some people change more over the course of the years, there's also types like ENTP which generally retain this sort of "childish" nature they had when they were younger and that's another thing that makes them slightly different from INTPs who will generally mature up a bit more (except they tend to easily lose control of their emotions when they're under pressure). I think xNTPs aren't nearly as formulaic and pretentious as xNTJs when it comes to music listening: xNTPs are more "[url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleOfCool]rule of cool[/url]" as in they enjoy both simple and complex music, as long as there is something entertaining to it; whereas xNTJs just tend to care too much about the stylistic and technical part of it (the ones I know do, at least). http://www.keys2cognition.com/explore.htm This test is actually pretty good because it focuses on the functions and not exactly on the MBTI type.

INTPs and INTJs actually have "opposite" functions... well, sort of. INTP: (Ti-Ne-Si-Fe), INTJ: (Ni-Te-Fi-Se). But it's also true some opposing functions (i.e. Fi/Ti are both "right-brained" functions) develop on the same areas of our brain. I agree the superficial difference between these 2 types isn't huge, but generally, INTJs will be more decisional and stubborn when they firmly believe in a theory and they won't be afraid to follow their own path. INTPs are more flexible, but they just tend to over analyse things (this line made me think about Lateralus, lol) and failure terrorizes them. I agree about ENTPs and INTPs being bros. Generally, the only difference is that ENTPs tend to be more humorous and "chaotic" in their approach to things. But they also have a greater degree of control over their emotions, unlike INTPs who just let it all out at once. But anyway, you can't consider yourself fully mature MBTI/functions-wise until you're in your late 20s/early 30s.

Hey there. I guess I could say I'm sorry for replying 3 months later. D: But I kind of stopped using this site... Well anyway, I actually do prefer Lateralus to AEnima by a long margin. That doesn't change they're both excellent. I can't wait to hear something new by them. And speaking of MBTI: I guess I've learned more about the types and their functions and I know I have more Fe and Fi than the typical INTP (the latter being INTJs tertiary function). But still, I don't think I could be anything other than an xNTP. I have ENTP and INTJ traits, but I'm not good with decision making and I'm often unsure of what I'm doing.. that's not how INTJs are. Overall, I'd consider myself an INTP or even some sort of "broken ENTP".

It's absolutely not a reason to lose control, rather a way to start over and begin a new life. I can see how it'd be scary though. Where ARE you moving, then? I'm starting community college for 1-2 years and then moving on to "real" college, and moving out of my parents house as soon as I have the money. And doing that is easier said than done, haha, as long as I'm happy and still have plenty of time for myself, is what really matters to me.

Oh I'm sorry to hear, where did you move to? And the fact of that makes me extremely sad.... but I'll try not to let myself be.

I knew it! The DSBM and Atmospheric Black Metal gave it away too. I made a new facebook and wanted to re-add and talk to you, but it seemed like you hadn't really gotten on either account for awhile. You probably wouldn't want to get on there anyway, it's impossible for you to have anything private on there anymore. But what's new? I'm turning 18 in a week

Good times, good times. I haven't been to Cascadia, but I have been to Montréal, for a gaming convention. It was weird seeing signs in french, I felt like I was in the middle of Marseilles. Grew more fascinated with french culture from that trip, and I've learned a bit of french too.

Agalloch's most recent album is the one I love from them, especially "Black Lake Niðstång." Actually, now that I think about it, I think it was that album, Marrow of the Spirit, that got me hooked on ambient. I was still that 16 year old die-hard metal kid at that time, nothing else ever interested me, but I played that and it sent me on a journey through other musical genres. So Agalloch got me into ambient, and post-rock. I'm fascinated by Cascadia also, but I just seem to be attracted more to their black metal scene, like WitTR, Ash Borer, Addaura, etc. That scene really shines, some of the best black metal. I mean, I don't understand the hate for usbm, it's so damn good.

[artist]Miserere Luminis[/artist], another great band with some shoegazing elements but it's mostly black. I think it was Agalloch also that got me into post-rock (I feel like that's incorrect though, I like Agalloch but they haven't really had that much of an impact on me, I think I may have just jumped in blindly into the genre and liked the results), but neo-folk I started listening because you told me about it.

Surprisingly enough, I actually got into shoegaze through black metal. First it was [artist]Alcest[/artist] that I fell in love with, then I delved deeper into the genre only to find bands like {artist]Infinitas[/artist, [artist]Lergrev[/artist], [artist]Verwüstung[/artist] and [artist]Shroud of Distress[/artist]. I've only recently gotten into the big names of shoegaze. I love black metal, I swear it can combine with anything and make it ten times better.

I didn't feel the post-rock aspect was well executed on Handful. I guess I can't say I didn't like Handful, but I just found it okay.
