I don't think many modern death metal bands sound too much like their influences. You hear some similarities here and there but overall it's completely different, especially with fusion genres. And I consider most of Opeth's stuff death metal but I'm not sure about Gojira. I think Decapitated's new stuff (albums after The Negation) sounds like Gojira and if you really like early Opeth I think you might like Agalloch. Their stuff is a bit more black metal sounding though.
