The band is quite open about their perspective - I've read several interviews with them, and I've also watched their infamous pre-concert condemnation of 'fascist' tendencies in black metal, where they simultaneously endorse things like ecofeminism. This isn't really a contentious subject - Wolves in the Throne Room give artistic voice to a political viewpoint that one might describe as 'green' and 'anti-authoritarian'.

"I'd like to go there to discuss the band but any sort of discussion of "hipster metal" on last.fm is so toxic that it's impossible to actually have anything productive." <------- But I just told you I'd be willing to have a 'productive' conversation. I like talking about music. This is last.fm/the-internet, so trolling is par for the course, but there's no reason why we can't drop the snarky attitudes and talk reasonably.

The reason why nobody takes you seriously in these 'arguments' is that the only point you ever manage to make with your essay-length walls of text is "BUT I LIKE IT, AND YOU ARE MEAN FOR CRITICIZING IT!" If you want to have a stimulating argument about metal, you're free to start one on my shoutbox. I'm not a totally unreasonable person, even though I don't like the music you listen to, and I don't like your perspective.

I don't think you understand what "socially conscious" means, and it's funny that you say WITTR are "indie-rock-disguised-as-black-metal" when they actually don't have post-rock/shoegaze influence , except for on their latest album. They're just a straight up atmospheric black metal band. But it's cool to hate them cause Pitchfork is so gay! <----------- They're "socially conscious" insofar as they're "aware" of "issues" of "race, class & gender" (hurr), and they think it's worthwhile to make public statements about them. They've also spoken before about the compatibility of their work with themes of 'ecofeminism' and such.
