Listening to your #1 artist, who I had never heard of before. Pretty good!

I listen to three types of music. Type 1 - my music. Music to get your teeth into. Music that winds my wife up. She calls it bleepy-bloopy headache music. David Sylvian, Cocteau Twins, New Order, that sort of thing. Type 2. Music that I quite like, that meets the type of music that my wife can tolerate. Imogen Heap, Sia, Jethro Tull. Type 3. Music that I can tolerate that my wife thinks is OK. Adele and Coldplay, for instance. There is a fourth type of music that is music my wife likes that I cannot tolerate. This why we listen to audiobooks when we are in our car on long journeys.

My trial separation from Spotify was partly inspired by economics, partly by YouTube channels such as Digging The Greats and their series on mixtapes, and partly a dissatisfaction with consuming music rather than listening to music. I have really enjoyed buying albums from Discogs and Bandcamp, I even bought one from the iTunes store (first time since 2015!) There are however a few issues becoming evident. As I go through my scrobbling history, taking note of music I do not currently own but listened to on Spotify, I am beginning to see the scale of the project I have taken on. So far I have gone through the first six pages of my most listened to albums and I already have 70 that I do not own. If I set a purchase limit of somewhere between £7.99 to £9.99 per album, and limit myself to a similar cost per month as my Spotify subscription, I think it will take me about three to four years to buy all that music.

October 31, 2025. 12:05. 7520 days since my first scrobble, and I just played track number 266,266, Slow Country by Gorillaz. When I stumbled across Audioscrobbler I had no idea that I would still be using it twenty years later. It has been a blessing and a curse, as a primary reason for using the service was to find new music. Now I have so much music it is literally impossible to listen to all of it in a year. I go through all of my scrobbled albums one by one to make sure I have listened to them at least once, while using Spotify to find even more new music or old albums I somehow missed when they were released.

Hi! I feel like such a weirdo asking this, but you are another person that has (as evidenced by your comments on their page) enjoyed the work by Macadamia. At some point in the past, last.fm removed the download links for their stuff/the ability to play the songs. I did not anticipate this("the internet is forever" is such BS), and the thought of never getting to listen to "I hate that biscuit" again has caused me enough despair to spend two hours wannabe-internet-stalking two guys who have since long moved on, and the only ways to contact them would have been somewhat unhinged and inappropriate. I hope that by now I have invoked(?) enough pity in you to consider helping a fellow out. If you feel that this would be reasonable (spoken like a true bum), I would gladly compensate you for going through the trouble of uploading "The EP" on a platform. It's okay if not, in that case I'll try the same spiel on another unsuspecting victim that has listened to them.

August 1, 2022. 18 years on Audioscrobbler/last.fm and I have now listened to 50 artists more than a thousand times each. Some of those artists I would never have heard of without the recommendation service this place offers.

And Feb 2022 is the first time I have listened to 100+ tracks every single day of the month. All made possible due to being home after surgery and complications.

Somehow that is the first time since I discovered Audioscrobbler that I have listened to more than 15K tracks in three consecutive years,
