yeah dude, things were pretty bad for awhile. i had to move back in with my family until i find a job. luckily (and thankfully) they've been really cool about the whole thing, so yes, a roof for me and the kitties. i hope you're able to at least collect government checks. my agency really fucked me over with that. awesome to hear about swans (i always miss them here) and more so, shellac. they're coming back to new york as well on october 3rd and you best believe i got me a ticket. also seeing scratch acid about a month later and couldn't be any more stoked. hope all is well, lady.

hello there. sorry it took me a minute to get back to you. a good excuse i do not have, just forgetfulness. anyway, seeing GBV was heavy moment for me. really a dream come true. there were many points between during both shows that had me choking and tearing. they put on the finest rock n' roll show i've ever seen and definitely the greatest shows i've ever seen. wish you could've made it. i was lucky enough to have gotten tickets for the new years eve show even though they were insanely overpriced. can't wait to live it all over again in a few weeks. they're also playing a show down in louisville in january so if my financial nonsense lines up, i might have to take a road trip. aside from that, things are going fairly well up here. just bracing myself for yet another stressful holiday season. hope everything is going well by you and that had a nice thanksgiving. xo

shellac is certainly worth traveling for because they never, ever tour. i've been waiting years to see them and then out of nowhere, they announce a show in brooklyn, at the bellhouse of all places! it's been such a great year for shows. seeing fanclub in september as well. if only fugazi, unwound, and loaf would reunite, my life would be complete. oh, and a free pavement show certainly beats a 50+ service charge pavement show =) ps - if i see any GBV tickets pop up for the philly or dc shows, i'll let you know.

huge tour of england and southern scotland. it was a blast, but i'm desperately trying to get back on schedule. still feel sort of jet lagged even after being home for 3 days. oh well, totally worth it though. bummer you haven't gotten tickets. the philly show sold out within 10 minutes, but such was the case with every show on the tour. best advice would be to check ebay and craigslist regularly. i know tickets have been popping up on both. let me know if you're able to get tickets for philly. we can get shitty in celebration!

I love his music(well more of the smiths) so much. It was my first shakemore too, and the 1st time I'd heard about it. I saw it on jads facebook(he added me a while back after I bought a cutout from him) and then all 3 of the actually goodbands from that night told me to come out. I went with another friend to shakemore, they couldn't get tickets to whartscape(which I wanted to go to as well) so this was the 2nd best option. I have trouble finding people with good taste too, but its gotten better since I've gotten to college. I go to too many shows.

yeah yeah that was me, my best friend and i both really like half japanese and boogieing down, so much fun. we came from martinburg wv, quite the drive so i figured we'd make the most of it. (did you see john waters there?) actually i was at shakemore! i got there around the end of coo coo rockin times set stayed for lumberob then went to get lunch and came back at the end of that band who had a guy playing standup percussion(WHO WAS THIS BAND??) i stayed until animal eyes but left becuase we wanted to get holy frijole for lunch in bmore and then get home rest up for class the next day.

hello mam! good to hear from you. i'm doing quite well actually. just shlepping my way through the summer. though certainly not for me, i'm glad you had a good time at bonnaroo. i'm not really into the whole festival atmosphere (and especially not into DMB, haha) . i'm all about outdoor festivities, but usually not into large scale shows. i find them to be a waste of time/money but that's just me. so, how are YOU? tell me something good. it's been a rough work day.

haha, i hear that. all of my karaoke experience has not necessarily been in any sort of karaoke bar. sounds like good times. as for memorial day weekend, i'll still be in seattle. what better way to "celebrate" than leaving my shithole town? and what might you be up to this fine evening? i was supposed to go to a killer house show around the corner, but exhaustion and worry got the best of me. at the same time there's no better company than that of my cats, record player, and mr. john hamm (i just bought season 3 of mad men and i'm pretty amped about it). maybe some bong rips and a burrito to go along with all of this?

and speaking of typo's, i was reading a few of my posts down there and realized i truly blew it. i hate when my sentences don't make sense. this seems to happen all the time.

well, i'm sure there are parts of "say-tle" that are pretty exclusive, and very much unaffordable, but where my friends live it is dirt cheap in comparison to anything i would find here in here. "cost of living" actually seems to apply to the working people, would ya look at that?! sasquatch festival you say? it must be known that when it comes to the almighty sasquatch and an entire festival dedicated to this remarkable mystery beast, i cannot be held accountable for my actions, unless it puts a dent in my wallet of course.

i actually like to pronounce it "say-tle" with extra pronunciation on the L. and yes, that's vince and he's my favorite walking creature in the world. this cat enriches my life in so many ways. he's actually 1 of 4. i have 2 more tuxedo's (they're the best), nico and prudence (who is only about 7-8 weeks old at this point) and tommy, a 24 lb. polydactyl/maine coon mix who has the biggest paws i've ever seen on a domesticated animal. he actually has thumbs!

well i'm heading to washington to visit a friend of mine that moved there this past winter but while there, i'll be checking out it to see if would be a suitable place for me to live within the next couple of years. it is very, very affordable to live there and there are quite a few other things that make it appealing to me, but i think i already told you about this. the only thing that could possibly hold me back is the weather, but i hear it's not nearly as bad when you're actually there. i'm glad you're not turned off by my long needlessly long "shouts". sometimes i tend to run off, you know? if only i could've written this much in college. oh well.

yeah, tell me about it. at the same time, it's a good thing i pack lightly. aside from my cats, records/music/other media, and books i don't really have much else to move which makes life a bit easier. at this point i'm more anxious than anything to get everything in before i leave for seattle at the end of the month. we shall see. i hope everything goes well with your final but once it's over, i hope you'll be able to enjoy a nice long break for the summer. aside from a couple of sweet local shows i've been to in the past couple of weeks, i haven't really seen much lately. the last show i went to was the wedding present at the bowery ballroom and it was intense. they are one of my favorite bands i would never miss an opportunity to see them when they come to the states. looking forward to the brian jonestown massacre june 5th in brooklyn. just got me some tickets the other day.

oh, wow. tons of madness at the moment actually. right now i'm in the process of moving into a new place. i had a huge falling out with my landlord last month and though i wasn't actually thrown out or given a specific time to leave, it's for the best i do so. it's a huge bummer considering i haven't even been in the place for a full year and i've grown to love it and get really comfortable. on the same coin, the new place i'm moving into is almost 200 bucks cheaper than where i am now, plus it cuts my work commute in half so it has its upsides. just a major pain getting everything together but it'll all be over soon. haven't really been doing anything else aside from this lately, unfortunately. how the heck you are you my friend? it's been awhile. great to hear from you as always. hopefully your life is chaos free at the moment.

no family, but i do have some friends that live/lived in washington and oregon. i've just always been drawn to the northwest and all it has to offer as far as scenery, music, culture, beer, etc. not to mention i'm completely nuts about twin peaks, i'm sure this is heavily influencing the idea (actually, i know it has). like i mentioned, it just may be difficult to adjust to the constant rain and grey skies (not a fan of this). i've never actually traveled these parts but i'm going to be spending a week in washington in may so this will somewhat determine my decision i'm sure. anyway, how was your weekend?

and yes, it is about 5 hours away but depending on traffic i can make it down there in about 4-4 1/2 hours.

yeah, new york is pretty over done for me at this point. there's nothing about it that is remotely appealing to me anymore. it was a lot more fun in my teenage years/early 20's (listen to the old man here) but i'm way burnt out. not to mention i hate the typical "new yorker" mentality and everything that goes along with it, as well as the never ending and increasingly frustrating traffic issue. i was actually considering moving down to dc within the next couple of years, but at this point i'm thinking somewhere northwest. i just don't know if i could handle the consistent rainfall/gloominess. dc is still a possibility as it is one of my favorite cities on the east coast. we shall see. i'll be staying in the capitol hill/adams morgan area, i have some friends around these parts. i've been to the 9:30 several times and the rock and roll hotel once. even if nothing exciting happens, i'm just happy to get out of here for the next couple of days.

nice. they played "100,000 fireflies" yesterday as well. certainly another highlight of the set. bummer about TMBG, but i'm glad you'll at least get another shot to see them. the reason i asked you about dc is because i'm actually headed down there for the next couple of days tomorrow. thought maybe you might know about anything interesting going on or if you'd be around somewhere. and yes, i am from new york and good lord do i hate this place!

funny you wrote, i was actually planning on filling you in at some point this evening. the show was fantastic. it was easily the blandest performance i've ever seen, but amazing nonetheless. the set list could have been better (though they did a few songs from holiday, highway strip, and distance plastic trees) but they did play "suddenly there is a tidal wave" which is one of my favorite magnetic fields songs so i was very happy about that. unfortunately i was broke (which seems to be the case way too often these days) so i couldn't pick up a vinyl copy of "get lost". all in all it was a great show and i'm glad i was finally able to see them perform. aside from this, my week has been pretty shot. by the way, would i be correct in assuming you live in dc?

oh, i can't wait for the magnetic fields. good to know they're doing mostly older material, though i think it's safe to say i'd be satisfied with any set list he comes up with. nothing new to report. i'm just glad the working week is over, though my weekends seem to be gone in the blink of an eye. as for the snow, it doesn't seem to be nearly as bad as everyone's been making out to be. i just woke up a few minutes ago and saw nothing but a light dusting. it's sort of a shame because now there's no excuse to not do stuff. i was planning on laying on the couch all day with a bottle of whiskey, mad men, and a small stack of phil ochs records. now i'm burdened with errands for the afternoon. crappy. enjoy yours and be safe.

i'm not even sure i know what an ipod is these days. i barely even use itunes anymore unless i'm at work. as far as a turntable that hooks up to the internet, soon enough this will no longer be a dream, i'm sure. i recently bought an iprofile turntable that converts vinyl tracks to mp3's which is the pretty close i guess. haven't used it for this purpose yet and probably won't any time soon. nice to have the option though.

yeah, this friend of mine has a pretty extensive residents collection and turned me on to them. i actually own a few of their albums on vinyl (meet the residents, the commercial album, tune of two cities). i'm actually drawn more to their mysteriousness and obscurity more so than the actual music/art they make though i do have a strong appreciation for it also. perfect for plopping on the couch with a book. and guided by voices are the greatest band, ever.

i noticed you're seeing the residents as well. i know someone who would be very, very jealous.

well i didn't plan to. i don't think stephin would be happy about that. merritt = brilliant, awkward man. i've never seen the fields before, but i could imagine it to be a tense performance.

Oh, a panda! The samples on "Modeling Sucks" make me laugh every time
