The AV Club has this new feature called "One Track Mind" where they get people to talk about and perform a specific song of theirs, and the newest one is the Archers of Loaf dude talking about "Web in Front": http://www.avclub.com/articles/eric-bachmann-of-archers-of-loaf-discusses-and-per,65863/

I improbably managed to land the Reaching Quiet LP for like $16 on eBay where it regularly goes for like $60. It's sublime.

I think the most remarkable thing about that is that anyone remembers You Don't Mess With the Zohan. I don't think even Adam Sandler remembers that one.

How high up the list of best album covers of the 2000s do you think Futures goes?

Wow, that was incredible. It combined my fondness of awful puns with my love for capitalization-based humor.

"Oh Messy Life" from the one-night-only, 15 minute/4 song long Cap'n Jazz reunion last night: http://vimeo.com/8926527 I cannot imagine being there and hearing that start!

Yeah that was a hot sess'. Despite loving Daytrotter ever-so-much, I find the articles frequently unbearable and have given up on reading them...

Actually, thanks to the abomination that is the Alvin & the Chipmunks franchise, a think the go-to sequel reference might have gotten an update: "Hester Street II: The Squeakquel".

You and your tiny desks. I did end up titling that paper Fustaši, but I amended it to include the subtitle "A DIY Approach to Genocide". It's good a thing I'm graduating, because I fear where this downward trend of ridiculousness would take me if I had more semesters.

Superb. The version of I Get Wet is terrific, and those piano improvs felt like the closest I could ever get to knowing what it's like inside his head, going from like classical-sounding piano to some weird jaunty vaudeville tune to just arrhythmic key-smashing.

Man, no one better ever try to tell me Almost Killed Me isn't the best Hold Steady album. If they do I will be forced to break them, Bane-style.

BEWARE, tirade ensues: in (apologetically belated) response to your txt of recent weeks, I say "fucks yeyah" to the winter of our MGS theme you've cooked yourself up. I must say tho that unless you have access to a ps3 and MGS4 (or a friend that you can exploit), the ending to MGS2 will only make you FURIOUS because it only asks questions yet the answers remain unanswered until four (as three is a prequel and in itself kind of a cop-out, but a super soviet styled Big Boss bad-ass cop-out). but at least Sons of Liberty is the first truly post-modern videojuego. well, second. almost forgot about EARTHBOUND. muchlove, juanathan. [p.s. sunaku..... suNAku....... SSSSUNAKUUUUUU!!!!]

UPDATE: Mere hours later I changed my mind—there's a track on the new Hello Nasty reissue that makes me want to cry. Still, Cursive doing Love Cats is prettay boss.

I'm finally watching that Cursive-on-Letterman video, and they're really selling me on that track. I remember being kind of lukewarm on it, but this is terrific. I love how enthusiastic Dave was the end. (Also, The Thermals = my new LastFM #1).

I just got my hands on the "I'll Believe in Anything, You'll Believe in Anything" solo piano demo. While it is unsurprisingly hot shit, it's not quite as revelatory as the Sunset Rubdown version was.

There's a new Beirut double EP that I recommend. The second half is credited to "Real People"; it's nice seeing that moniker again (and it's similarly "electronic").

I've been working my way through 2008: The Year in Hype, going through all the bands I resented being told to listen to at the time, and while I found a lot of it to be rather disappointing (I'm looking at you, Bon Iver), I think you'd dig Titus Andronicus. The guy has an Oberstian voice, so it's kind of like a punk Bright Eyes.
