Haha, when I look at the Polish orthography I find it much more scary than Russian. Stuff like the letter combination of "sz" looks pretty scary, at least until you realize it's just a different way of writing š/ш, and the list goes on. Slavic languages are awesome, you are lucky to speak one natively.

Fake British accent is horrible XD 98% of English teachers I've met spoke it very well, with little to no accent. Some are Americans or Brits, though. Holy fuck, 7 noun genders? (I've heard that some African languages have as much as 12 though.) I must say, though, that the author of the blog post has absolutely no idea what he's talking about when it comes to Japanese. I think it's nearly blasphemous to even mention Chinese and Japanese in the same sentence, since they aren't related AT ALL (they are almost as different Chinese and Polish if you know what I mean...). The things he says are easy apply to Chinese only, since Japanese has lots of complicated grammar, a lot more verb conjugations than many European languages, their own sort of cases, and the list goes on.

Oh my god. But I've seen a bunch of those things on youtube as well, surely it can't be representative for an entire nation. Maybe you're right, it does take a lot for someone who isn't born here to sound completely natural accent-wise. But the fact that these languages have such weird accents is the exact reason why Scandinavians never can get rid of them when speaking other languages. My old English teacher also said that Norwegians can't pronounce the V nor the W right in English, because in our language we only have a sound that is something in between or something like that. Oh, what do I know. I think it is related to Hungarian, yes. And all Slavic languages (except Bulgarian, I think) are pretty scary when it comes to grammar anyway, and I want to learn several of them, so eventually it must get easier...I hope.

Ouf, Americans are ignorant about everything. (Now I'm being ignorant about Americans by generalizing like that... I know that many Americans are not like the stereotype!) When you visit some other country, try to compare. Polish gardens really are something special. Maybe it's easier for a Finn to learn to get a good accent in Polish, or maybe he is just very gifted in that area. Anyway, Finnish isn't related to Scandinavian languages at all (completely different language family) so I don't know much about it. I would like to learn Polish someday though. There are a bunch of Poles in Norway, they even publish a magazine in Polish here called "Twoja Norwegia".
