I don't follow Denpagumi or Nijicon so I don't really know much about all that but I am sad to see Kanra leave aqbi altogether. At the moment, I can only name Akino Arai as the one singer that you might not have heard of. She does songs for animes, the few in particular which stood out for me was the work she did for Windaria. I recommend you check out the soundtrack, the tracks "Theme for Windaria", "Promise" and "A Beautiful Planet" are some of the best I've heard in any anime. The movie's not half bad either. I have listened to Baden Powell's and Vinicius de Moraes' collaboration, that's how I learned of the latter's name incidently, it's a smashing album. But my fav bossa nova was Baden Powell's solo rendition of Canto De Ossanha in a different album I forgot the name of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgS16Ipnr2E anything else that can match or even top this number?

To give you an idea of the singers that drew my attention outside of Classical, here's a list: Elizabeth Fraser (excellent range; experimental; capable of alternating between the light and airy then to the gravelly but pleasant) Vashti Bunyan (probably not the most virtuosic but you feel as though her voice has embalmed the air which you breathed in and all your wounds have thus been healed) Paul Weller (can be an angry East End Cockney bloke from one end and a jolly Black African/Carribean man the other; pulls off great falsetto notes too) Minnie Riperton (the mother of all whistle-register singers; her songs are peppered with these inimitable longly held whistling tones)

Hi there, can you recommend us some great Brazilian singers to help make amends for what I perceive as a deficiency of South American Latin music in my library? I've heard songs from Elis Regina, Vinicius de Moraes, Baden Powell and a couple others that don't leap to mind, other than these few though I feel as though I've only scratched the surface of what seems at cursory glance a highly developed musical culure.
