I'll be honest, I really enjoyed the Necrot record when it came out but haven't really gone back to it since. I'll probably put it on here and there in the background, but they kept this one pretty close to their previous formula. As for Witch Vomit's new release, I wasn't nearly as impressed with it compared to the album their sister band Torture Rack put out last year (which was in my top 5 that year). I haven't listened to any Wayfarer so I'll check them out, but I totally dig the latest Blackbraid record! It's not breaking any ground musically, but it's so easy to put on and listen to the whole thing.

I think it's alright. Obviously it's well written and it's gonna be a successful album for them, but I have very little history with melodeath so it mostly comes off as pretty basic to me. I'm not really surprised that Gatecreeper are moving towards even greater accessibility (hell, Deserted was one of the albums that got me back into metal), and it's healthy for the metal industry to have bands like this, so I'm not complaining!

And I will do my best to once again spin (really any) Bell Witch. I've always liked their sound and I love me some funeral doom, but I've never invested in any of their stuff other than listening to their albums a couple of times (which at their length, is hard to fully grasp). I genuinely blame this site for making me avoid longer tracks, but I'll get into it at some point I'm sure.

lol no worries dude. I’m pretty sure the only reason I’ve been finding more music recently is because I got laid off in late 23 haha. Been hitting the job market for months now with no luck so far (though I have a few interviews comin up soon), but at least I have music and nice weather lol. This year’s been weird so far. Who knows man, something will probably click for you again in the near future; you’ll get that music high once again!

i really cant make my mind on the newest outer heaven. ive spun it 4 or 5 times and it is a great album indeed, i like almost every song on it, but even despite that i feel like it lacks structure or something making it a whole package. i have the same problem with the newest ascended dead that got a lot of praise. every song on both of those albums feels like an ender to me. the cruciamentum on the other hand was a great shout, i hadnt checked them out but thats some nasty filth going straight to the rotation.

and this is the last time ill pester you with this recommendation: ashen tomb. i know you love your krypts and other the like so im pretty sure youll end up liking them. filthy riffs and vocals straight from the mouldy, slime-oozing sewage pipe, what could go wrong?

thanks for the list! need to check your stuff out because we only share one album from the past year and usually our tastes have been pretty similar. i checked the new fossilization album when it came out but at the time atleast it didnt hold a candle to "he whose name was forgotten", maybe i should revisit it tho. and yes, if youre feeling like hopping on a wave of new finnish dm, please lend an ear to disguised malignance, malformed, cryptic hatred asap! the prominent bass lines on the first 2 will make your mouth water

as for my (somewhat thought out) top 10 performers of the year: sonic poison // gravesend // full of hell/nothing collab // disguised malignance // malformed // ashen tomb // afsky // moonlight sorcery // weald & woe // kouta. it is impossible for me to put the releases in any particular order and i could give you like 10 more from the realms of dm/bm if youd like. this was a good year regarding releases man. oh and honorable mention to chemical brothers for releasing a killer album too!

ah very reasonable take on wittr, hard agree. by new blood incantation ep i take you mean 'luminescent bridge'? id go as far as saying it is the best material theyve put out so far and itll only ramp up from here. after 'timewave zero' they stated on an interview that the next album will combine their dm and ambient sides and it shows especially on 'obliquity'. that 2 minute solo section where morris just makes love to his bc rich while the synths roll on the back and constant drumwork keeps it all together - just pure fucking perfection. the world needs more of that but then again im reaaally biased as one could figure from this fanboy rant lol

That's awesome! I should clarify that I don't inherently think LSD is bad for your mental health, I've just known and seen a few friends who've ended up with a sense of paranoia from taking too many doses. It can be really world-changing and not in the best ways sometimes as I'm sure you're aware. It's been awhile since I dropped consistently, but my good experiences saw me realizing how extremely intricate the world is and how I could fit inside it, it also really boosted my empathy and understanding of people. I feel like it made me a better person, a better friend, and a better partner. Now, on the flip-side, I did see Death Grips while on acid and that was a pretty intense experience lol. Not horrible, but definitely not as bright and shiny as chilling out in a forest haha

Yeah FBZ have a super versatile discography, I love their more recent stuff (I say that like their last album didn't come out 5 years ago, and I don't really count Escape from New York) but Better Off Dead holds a really special place for me as it was one of the first Rap albums I fucked with. Such a nostalgic vibe and I enjoyed the heyday of the Beastcoast era. And yeah lol, as someone who's had his fun with a mix of drugs, I can confidently say it definitely does not spark as much creative ability (or good mental health) as you think it does when using. That being said, I also hope to get a new album soon!

For some reason I just haven't put the time into figuring out how to get local mp3s into my Spotify, I'm super lazy and just use Open Scrobbler to track songs downloaded onto my phone or from Bandcamp. I could make excuses, but I've been on this site for a decade now and I really should've figured it out by now lol
