Good to know that I'm not the only one listening to 90's videogame music. Greetings from Montreal.

Dude, I've been listening to Last Fair Deal Gone Down a lot during past weeks, and only now I understood how good it is! When I was getting familiar with Katatonia's discography I didn't really think it was anything special and never really came back to it, but now I did, and my, my, what an album it is! It has some things Katatonia has never done before or after. It's really unique.

Haha just saw your post on Trower's page. I didn't even realize he was still making music. Been in love with Bridge of Sighs forever but never branched out from there. Def gonna give some of his new stuff a try.

I'm pretty sure that the fans who praise the new album so much are not the same fans they've had years ago. With each change, a band usually loses some fans, but gains some new ones. That's only natural. But, all in all, I agree - they do sound more generic nowadays, and that's actually why they have so many new fans now - modern mainstream alternative metal is popular because it's simple and easy to digest. They got too carried away with integrating it into their sound - now there's hardly anything else left. If they want to change their sound - fine by me. What I have a problem with is the direction they're going.

Yeah, Night Is The New Day was quite an experiment - which was the best thing about it! It was pretty varied, and that made it special. Dead End Kings is the opposite - it's too "regular". That's what I didn't like. It feels like they could just leave the artwork blank and put a sticker on the packaging that says "Album. Generic Katatonia". Regarding the vocal style, what I meant was that Jonas' way of singing is now this same style he does often since TGCD. Not just the voice, but this sporadic word flow, I don't know how to explain it. It's just like no matter what the song is, he sings it the same way. Anyway, I like his vocals the most on Discouraged Ones, they're so cold and distant, and together with Mikael Åkerfeldt it's the best thing ever. After that he went all whiny Robert Smith style on Tonight's Decision and Last Fair Deal, until he kinda settled down on Viva Emptiness. And now he sings like he's bored and words just fall out of his mouth. Eh... he should lose some weight.

Hey, yeah it did take a while to adjust, but I'm liking the album quite a lot. I still prefer the feel of Damnation though. I'm going to see Opeth in December, for the first time, and I'm really looking forward to it ^^. Yup, I listen to parts of the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack, though I've never played it. Have you ever heard Matt Uelmen, who did the Diablo 2 soundtrack? That's quite something... especially 'Rogue', 'Tristram' and 'Desert'.

Hi! Nice taste you too! I like all the stuff xD, not easy answer... I have favorite songs from each album, maybe a personal compilation could be a 'best album'.... I think they have been in constant innovation since first recording, but always keeping the original essence, the Aker stamp. I hope u fine some new interesting band in my artist list. Cheers!

You're very welcome about RyG though I had no idea =). I discovered RyG and Death the same way, from the same person in fact. 11:11 is my favourite album, and I think it's a real masterpiece. They're amazing live as well (they came to Melbourne in the same week that I discovered them, and I was so glad that things turned out that way).

That was kind of the case for me too. I first listened to Symbolic, and though I really didn't like the vocals, I loved everything else about it. But over time I got used to the vocals, and though I can't say they're my favourite vocals, they work. Then I listened to The Sound of Perseverance, and I liked it straight away (including the vocals). However, Symbolic is my favourite as it sounds more serious and more like a real classic to me. =)

Well, I listened to TGCD... It is overrated after all. It's a pretty mediocre album like Last Fair Deal Gone Down, some songs are good, some are OK, some are "meh..." (I can clarify which ones exactly if you want). It does sound like Viva Emptiness but I liked Viva Emptiness better. Not to mention Night Is The New Day, which is just epic.

Strange. Is it actually good? I always thought it's some commercial alternative shit and despised it because it's too popular and seems to be overrated. Didn't even listen to it, except for My Twin. Well MAYBE I should try it, you have a great taste so maybe it's not that bad after all.
