Yeah, I also liked the second day better. Yo La Tengo was indeed very very boring. I was expecting more, I guess. But it ended up being alright since Will Whitmore was playing 2 blocks away and he was awesome, as always. The beer they were selling there, I forget the name, but I think it was from Ames, was really good, too!

How'd you like 80/35? I had a pretty good time. My favorite discoveries were Earl Greyhound and Christopher the Conqueror. I loved Will Whitmore, was a little disappointed by YLT, but still liked it, loved Dawes and Califone, and Modest Mouse, of course. It was nice to be in the Midwest for the weekend to feel that crazy humidity.... and the giant downpour during the Walkmen!

I have a room at Hotel Fort Des Moines. They have an 80/35 special. I'll be driving to DM and would like to get in Friday, but I imagine all the campsites around town will be full because of the 4th, so I'm going to try to get there Saturday morning. I would love to camp at Saylorville Lake, but I doubt there's any chance of that happening. It's pretty silly of me to drive to Iowa for a 2-day concert and then immediately drive back (I have to be back for class on Tuesday morning), but I'm going to do it anyway.

I just bought my tickets for 80/35 and I'm pretty excited about it. Don't know if I'm flying or driving yet. Anybody you're especially excited about seeing? I'm really looking forward to Yo La Tengo, Califone, William Elliot Whitmore, Dawes, Spoon, Modest Mouse, The Walkmen, and Railroad Earth. And all the rest! I only have 4 1/2 days to get from northern Idaho to DM for the festival and back, but I'm going to give it the old college try.

We do have similar taste, for sure. Good stuff. It is odd that we frequent the same towns 2000 miles apart. Neither of them are my hometowns, though. I'm originally from Cedar Rapids and now I live in Moscow, Idaho, but I go to Portland a bunch. I love it, but I don't know about living there.. it's super expensive and hard to find a good job, at least from what I've heard. I'm in Idaho right now, but I will be traveling to DM for 80/35, but not the Melvins, unfortunately. My buddy Ricky, from Moscow, is actually a drum tech for the Melvins, but he isn't on this summer tour. Are you living in IA now?

hm.. i can understand the rationale behind your choice.. its just that from '05 to '07 i had decided to expans my horizons.. listen to a wider range of music.. cause at the end of the day, your insides know which music manages touch specific chords.. i love both lists but i think the '09 desert fucking island list will reconcile everyting and keep what really made an influence and turned into the man i am today.. i guess :) thanx for this monday morning surprise, you've managed to reverse my fucked up mood ;)

Well, I like quite a bit of it actually. I'm not a big fan of the growling vocal stuff, but I happen to love a good long meandering, so those 20 min. tracks don't really bother me much. Bohren & der Club of Gore is one I've really been getting into lately. They're intense, but quite. I've seen them labeled as Jazz in some places and that is fitting. Not a lot of noise with these guys. They don't go too crazy with the length, but I don't think they have too many clocking in under four min. Not too many under 6, to tell you the truth.

Loving it! I can't believe how long it took me to get Approximate Hellhound, I've spent way too long hoping to pick up a cd of it before giving in and buying it on mp3... On first few listens I reckon it's a lot better than Lucky's Tune, but it's going to take a lot of listens before I will be able to compare it to Revival. Revival is in my top ten albums ever. Nice collection of tunes by the way.
