every year, i wonder if truly do ever enjoy music, or if i just keep consuming music endlessly to satisfy a never-ending urge to find something, anything that can grab my attention. I run through so many songs, playlists, albums, never fully digesting each song's true meaning or depth. i often recall memories from a particular album release, being inspired to listen to it after watching a heartfelt interview of the artist describing the torturous and pained process of their musical craft, a representation of their life, painstakingly crafted and stuffed inside .wav files totaling roughly an hour in length. That album was dogshit. But it has stuck with me more than many others. Usually I rate albums, mixtapes, singles etc. with arbitrary star ratings, for some hipster website to make myself look cooler in front of people equally as pretentious. I could never rate this one however... it felt almost hurtful to give someone's intimate life work a low rating.

At the same time though, has that not what I had been doing to all the album ratings I had done previously? These were the intimate works of all of these artists, and I had simply reduced their meticulous craft into a simple number. Often times, I found myself rating music to fit the status quo... to this day, I still don't know if I truly like a single Radiohead album, or if I'm convincing myself to do so just because some group of music nerds told me to do so. Anyways, back to this dogshit album. I've lost the name of the album and artist to time, but then again, I still think about it from time to time. Moreso than any other album I've simply enjoyed and discarded. Wherever you are, mystery artist, I hope you're doing well. I wouldn't even implore you to keep making music... it seriously left that bad of an impression musically. However, I want to thank you for inspiring me, even if inadvertently. To not listen to music to enjoy it, but to enjoy listening to music.
