I have 2 weeks off from Saturday, so I'll get cracking on the reviews then. Soz that I haven't done them yet.

Okay, then I'll go for the Duncan Browne and Jobriath albums. I've never listened to either of them before, but I'm curious. Could you review The Day the Signal Died? I don't know if you have that one. If not then I'll send it to you (CD or download, whichever you'd prefer).

I have a proposition for you: if you review one of my albums on CDBaby or Amazon then my next two reviews on ObscureAlbums will be whatever you want me to review. What do you think? You could be as honest as you want. I'm fine with criticism.

Yeah, I've been meaning to do more reviews as well. I can't believe I didn't do one for more than a year. I'm glad you liked it. It's a little long (I try to stick to approx 500 words if I can) but I didn't really want to cut any of it. If Jandek's music interests you then I'd recommend the album 'Blue Corpse' after 'Chair Beside a Window'. As for the Husker Du analogy, I'll just say that I think Grant and Bob's stuff was both great while in that band. How've you been, anyway?

Yeah man! Wings squared *so* much away on oddball B-sides, or failed to release at all (1882? man, what a ballsy move), and it's all as good as what *was* released. Two of George's B-sides are favorites of mine, too (Miss O'Dell and I Don't Care Anymore). But yeah, all things Beatles is pretty much right, haha. Post-1965, at least. And McGear... yeah, that album upsets me a little, as the music is so obviously top-notch Wings, but I just can't warm to Mike's voice. Still enjoyable, though.

2014...very amusing. I guess I will have to prove you wrong and work faster. My favourite Muses album is House Tornado, although I do love The Real Ramona and University. Hunkpapa's a curious one. The poppier production seems to elevate some tracks while taking the power away from others. If you'd rather do the Muses U.G. yourself then fair enough. I would be interested to read your thoughts on them too, as they have long been one of my favourite bands. I will put those Halaka reviews up next week, they just need a bit of re-writing. I originally wrote them for DMusic, where most people know who Halaka are. However I'm aware that a lot of people who read ObscureAlbums will have never heard of them, so I just need to write some stuff to acknowledge that.

Kate Bush is awesome. I've got 'The Kick Inside', 'Hounds Of Love' and 'The Sensual World' so far. I can't believe I've never listened to her before. I decided that I'm to do an Ultimate Guide it should be on Polvo.

I'm glad you said that. I bought 'Melody Nelson' expecting something amazing, but I was quite disappointed with it really.

I do indeed love Martika's singing. I might start with Hounds Of Love as I think 'Cloudbusting' is amazing. I was thinking about doing an "Ultimate Guide" for someone, but I'm not sure who. I thought maybe Jandek, but with a 60 plus album discography I don't think I could make my guide very. well...ultimate.

Ah, Kate Bush. I wany to start listening to her stuff but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions? Thanks mate. Stina's music really means a lot to me, so that review was something of a labour of love - although I still tried to maintain a degree of objectivity. Sure, those two records are worth a listen. 'This Is Stina Nordenstam' has a stronger pop influence than the earlier stuff and 'The World Is Saved' is a refinement of the same kind of sound. However, I would contend that her first three albums ('Memories of a Colour', 'And She Closed Her Eyes' and 'Dynamite') are her best.

Thanks for downloading Songs Without Words. All my albums are a little different from each other, I think. My first one was indie pop based, but the follow-up (which isn't out yet) is much darker sounding. I have a record out on Scotch Tapes this month which is two 20 minute tracks of noise/ambient/weird stuff. I'm also working on an drone/space rock album at the moment. In the future I'd like to make a synth pop album and a proper folk album.

Sorry I haven't got any new reviews to you yet, I've been busy as hell. I will get something sorted in March. How are you doing?

I can blame globetrotting too, actually! I only got back from Australia on Saturday. I was there for nearly 3 weeks and in that time I managed to see performances by Emmylou Harris, Sarah Blasko, Laura Jean, Kram, Gareth Lilliard, You Am I, Health and Wire! I listened to Prindle's album a fair bit while I was there too, so I am at least ready to review it now. Where have you been to?

Frank Black did 'Repo Man'? I've never heard that. The whole Repo Man soundtrack is great and I think it's a really good film too. I managed to download Better Luck from a blog. It's never been released on CD and the vinyl goes for silly money. A huge shame given what a great record it is. Indie rock, shoegaze etc is great, but punk is my biggest love - Germs, Black Flag, X, Husker Du, Minutemen, Mission Of Burma, Stick Men With Ray Guns, Turning Point, Fugazi, Refused etc etc...

Just decided was I'm going to review after Mark's album: 'Better Luck' by the Plugz. Have you ever heard it? It's been out of print for years, but, damn, it's awesome.

I got Prind's album. I'll post two reviews early next month - that one and... maybe a Stina Nordenstam, Galaxie 500 or Chug album.

Thank you very much :-) Thanks for fixing the category and decade tags too. I wasn't really sure how to do that. You know, that's never occurred to me before, but I hear what she means. His vocals on 'Hole' could definately be considered, um... pirate-esque. As for how I heard of them, well I really like Plexifilm - the company who released the Minutemen documentary 'We Jam Econo' and the Galaxie 500 DVD 'Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste'. Anyway, I was looking through their catalogue of films and I thought that 'Benjamin Smoke' sounded pretty interesting. It's a really great film and I've loved the music ever since.

I put the Smoke review up. I think that next I'm going to review an album that I don't think is amazing in order to stop myself from getting carried away. It's not easy to objective when it's a record you really love.

I'm just finishing the review of Smoke's 'Heaven On a Popsickle Stick', which I started ages ago. I'll upload it tomorrow. Would you be appalled if I did a review of a Martika album at some point. People may scoff, but I really do think she was great.

You're right, the level of obscurity doesn't matter in terms of whether a review is worthwhile or not, it's just that I would like to be able to turn a few more people onto some of the bands I love that don't seem to get much attention at all. As for the popularity of my reviews (which still surprises me), I'm just happy to be bringing a little extra traffic to your excellent site.

Okay, fair enough. I don't want to review albums I think are perfect (or close enough) either. I'd also like to write about a few records that are REALLY obscure, as opposed to just not being that well known. Also, to get myself back into the swing of things I want to spend a week writing as many reviews as I can. I know I'm slow on posting reviews but I think I do my best writing when it's done really quickly.

Oh, and reviews...I will have to get one to you soon. Is there anything or anyone in particular you'd like me to review?

Well im a bit pissed(drunk),but i think i disagree with you again...although i sort of agree with your overall assessment of the album!My disagreement is with your choice of good tracks v bad ones.However i love the fact you are even trying to bring any kind of attention to the album at all....I have backed off from my favourite place of disagreement for a few weeks.I told the group leader i would stay away for 2 months voluntarily.Still have the odd one to one though!

Student Demonstration Time is so, so dreadful. I'm sure that God must cry every time he hears it. Do you hate Mike Love like I do? The first Muses album is a very important record for me. It's up there with 'Let It Be' by the Replacements and 'Third / Sister Lovers' by Big Star. However I do think that the follow-up, 'House Tornando', is even better.
