Greetings and thanks for the message. I enjoy Grindcore a lot which has influences from Hardcore but it's funny to say that because Grindcore in actuality is a faster and harder version of Hardcore, isn't it? Anyway, listening to the different bands often makes the difference clear as some bands are more HC Punk than Grindcore. I don't know much about the finnish HC movement and haven't heard of the old bands of 80's but I listen to Rotten Sound much which is propably more leaning towards Death Metal and Grind combination than punk roots, although their first full length does have some punk sound left. England is propably the center of HC and Grindcore and there are a lot of great bands from Discharge to Extreme Noise Terror and more :)

About Гражданская Оборона. Sad but if you don't know russian language you can not fully understand the beauty of this band cause of their lyrics is awesome, so intresting, and written "with soul". Vocalist of that band Egor Letov was very talented and genious i think. Гражданская Оборона was in undergroung, but almost all people in Russia (and ex-USSR) love them and listen to it. Nevermind who you are - punk or clerk, you grew up on this, and you think that their songs were written specifically about your life. By the way, there is still a beautiful Russian band, much less known than the Гражданская Оборона, but the music is much more interesting, it also is in my last.fm top, I love it even more, probably. Called the Химера. I advise you to check it. An interesting mix of hardcore, folk music, metal, punk and god knows what else, and very beautiful surreal lyrics! :)

yeah i know exactly what you mean about ghost world, i love how enid doesn't even really know what she's doing herself. i think she's such a relatable character. i haven't made anyone a mixed cd for years! it's a shame, i enjoyed the thought process that goes into it, you can't do that when you send music online :/

Xysma is a nice choice if you're into grindcore mixed with hard rock or just simply death'n'roll. It might sound weird and dull for a first time, but after some time you will realize how good are they. I think i might check out The Comes from your top. I do like the Japanese approach in music

yeah, i've pretty much always been passionate about music, but the passion for film i have right now has never been as specific as it is. ghost world is one of my favourites, it's in my top 10 at least! have you read the ghost world graphic novel? it's quite different from the film, but i do love them both equally. have you watched any wes anderson films? he's one of my favourite directors, and his new film moonrise kingdom just came out a couple of weeks ago.

aha, last.fm is really handy, i think looking for music would be boring without it. and it's nice to see people with similar tastes! i've never watched trust before, but that scene you linked me too was funny, i'm going to try and check it out. i'm a media student, but i tend to enjoy watching arthouse films rather than hollywood films, though i don't totally rule them out. i figure music is your main interest?

no problem! you should give their album 'addicted to bad ideas' a listen too. also, do you listen to the band gogol bordello? i think they're kind of similar (though w/ifs is cabaret and gogol are gypsy punk) the way they both incoperate so many instruments, and still create a punk sound that isn't generic. should have a listen to their album 'super taranta!' :)

you don't get pop like that anymore! the best world/inferno album is probably 'red-eyed soul', or at least it's my personal favourite. i'd only heard of them for the first time after seeing them at rebellion fest last summer. i wish i'd heard their stuff before i went, they were just amazing to see live, and they're just such an impressive band.

i agree, but at least indie isn't like the pop music of this generation. almost all of it seems to be totally watered down and unoriginal.

ahhh i see. descendents are great, i think all of their songs have such smart and relatable lyrics. they're definitely one of the best punk bands around. when i saw dead kennedys a few years ago, the singer they had wasn't that good, he looked like he was trying to be morrissey or something! plus jello has that irreplaceable voice, i don't see the point in someone taking his place. i haven't really had the time to listen to anything new these days, i tend just to play my last.fm library radio on here whilst i do my work. what about you, any bands i should give a listen?

Had to listen to Evil Never Dies, hadn't done so in a long time. I used to really be into TH but lately not so much. Their older stuff's great, Evil Never Dies is awesome. It's probably my favorite album, well, either that one or Hell On Earth :) TH was also in that English Dogs tour so I got to hear some of those songs live ;) What's your favorite Smiths song? Exchanging mix tapes would be cool, but unfortunately we live a bit too far from each other. Are you into vinyl?

Ripcord's awesome, one of my faves at the moment. Been trying to get a hold of a Ripcord patch but no luck as of late :( Softer styles? Hmmm I like Bowie, Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, Joy Division... Some funk here and there... love Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Neil Young and a whole bunch more. The Smiths! I actually started getting really into them just last year :s

Yeah, that Amebix documentary is awesome and I think that's where I found out it's actually pronounced Ameebix :S I always thought it was Amehbix. ^^ Anyway, that first link's cool, I've seen it before. I started checking out the Indonesian punk scene every since all that shit that happened with the Aceh punks... really love their diy ideology for almost everything. I hadn't seen the other one but awesome as well, it really makes me want to go and check the scene myself. ;) Thanks for sharing them :)
